Abstract

Mataram University of Technology (UTM) still relies on a manual attendance process, such as signing paper-based attendance lists, which are prone to fraud and difficult to manage on a large scale. This study develops a face recognition-based attendance system using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), which can automatically recognize visual patterns and unique facial features. CNN has advantages in extracting significant facial features, allowing it to recognize faces under various lighting conditions and viewing angles. The dataset used consists of 5,820 facial images from 97 students, with 60 augmented images per student. The results indicate that this system can be implemented in a lecture environment, achieving a validation accuracy of 98.5% at the 150th epoch. However, the model has some limitations, such as a relatively small dataset size and challenges in recognizing faces under extreme lighting conditions or unusual angles, which can affect accuracy in real-world applications. Additionally, although this system has the potential for real-time implementation, further optimization is required to ensure fast and accurate responses on a large scale. To overcome these limitations, future research can explore the use of direct camera input to enhance efficiency and user experience. Furthermore, improving dataset quality by incorporating variations in lighting and image angles, as well as exploring alternative deep learning architectures such as Vision Transformers (ViT) or Swin Transformer, can enhance model performance and generalization. By implementing these improvements, the facial recognition-based attendance system can be more optimal in enhancing accuracy and ease of use in academic environments.

Abstract

Tujuan dari kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini adalah memberikan pemberdayaan usaha bagi kelompok usaha gula aren “Berkah” di dusun Duman Utara. Tujuan ini sejalan dengan tujuan pembangunan berkelanjutan/Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) yang dicanangkan pemerintah. Permasalahan yang dihadapi kelompok usaha gula aren “Berkah” adalah aspek manajemen usaha, aspek produksi dan pemasaran. Tahapan atau langkah-langkah dalam melaksanakan solusi yang ditawarkan meliputi sosialisasi, pelatihan dan pendampingan serta inovasi teknologi. Pada tahap sosialisasi dimulai dari tahap observasi dan wawancara sampai proposal. Pelatihan yang diberikan meliputi pelatihan manajemen usaha, pelatihan produksi dan pelatihan pemasaran digital/online. Pelatihan dan pendampingan manajemen usaha memberikan hasil peningkatan pengetahuan sebesar 25% dan peningkatan keterampilan sebesar 20% dari sebelum kegiatan PkM. Pelatihan produksi menggunakan inovasi teknologi mesin pemasak dan pengaduk gula aren tenaga listrik dengan bahan bakar kompos gas memberikan efisiensi waktu produksi 40% dari 5 jam menjadi 3 jam dalam sekali produksi, jumlah rata-rata produksi harian kelompok usaha meningkat 133% dari 15kg/hari menjadi 35kg/hari. Pelatihan pemasaran memberikan hasil peningkatan pendapatan anggota kelompok meningkat 133% dari Rp 60.000/hari menjadi Rp 140.000. Dari hal tersebut diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa kegiatan pelatihan, pendampingan dan inovasi teknologi dari PkM ini memberikan dampak terhadap ekonomi khususnya kelompok usaha gula aren ddi Dusun Duman Utara. Empowering Palm Sugar Business Groups Through Training and Mentoring in Duman Utara Hamlet, Duman Village, Lingsar District The purpose of this Community Service (PkM) activity is to provide business empowerment for the "Berkah" palm sugar business group in Duman Utara hamlet. This goal is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) launched by the government. The problems faced by the "Berkah" palm sugar business group are aspects of business management, production and marketing. The stages or steps in implementing the solutions offered include socialization, training and mentoring as well as technological innovation. The socialization stage starts from the observation and interview stage to the proposal. The training provided includes business management training, production training and digital/online marketing training. The business management training and mentoring resulted in a 25% increase in knowledge and a 20% increase in skills compared to before the PkM activity. Production training using technological innovations in electric palm sugar cooking and stirring machines with gas compost fuel provided a 40% production time efficiency from 5 hours to 3 hours in one production, the average daily production of the business group increased by 133% from 15kg/day to 35kg/day. The marketing training resulted in a 133% increase in group members' income, from Rp 60,000 per day to Rp 140,000. This finding suggests that the training, mentoring, and technological innovation provided by the Community Service Program (PKM) have had an impact on the economy, particularly on the palm sugar business group in Duman Utara Hamlet.
