Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest coffee-producing countries in the world. Indonesia recorded a large coffee harvest capacity reaching 774.96 thousand tons in 2022. The coffee processing naturally results in coffee hull waste that continues to be produced in large quantities. About 40 to 48% of the coffee hull composition contained in a coffee cherry is often discarded during processing and is not optimally utilized. One sustainable solution that can be implemented is processing coffee hull waste into liquid organic fertilizer (POC) through fermentation with EM4. This community service program was implemented in Pakis Village, Panti District, Jember Regency, which has 441.40 hectares of coffee plantations with an annual production of around 1,200 tons of robusta coffee. The program includes bioreactor development, socialization, and training for the community regarding the processing of coffee hull waste into POC. The result is increased community knowledge and skills as well as economic benefits for coffee farmers in Pakis Village through improved soil productivity. The results of the activities showed that the clarity of the knowledge with community needs increased to 70%, public interest in POC activities increased to 85%, and resulted in public satisfaction of 95%.

Abstract

Sentra produksi tape singkong skala rumah tangga di Kabupaten Jember salah satunya berada di kecamatan Patrang di Kelurahan Bintoro, yang setiap harinya menghasilkan limbah kulit singkong dalam jumlah besar. Limbah tersebut hingga kini belum dimanfaatkan secara maksimal dan cenderung dibuang atau dibakar. Di sisi lain, proses produksi tape masih bergantung pada kayu bakar yang kurang efisien dan menimbulkan dampak negatif terhadap lingkungan dan kesehatan. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk mengimplementasikan teknologi tepat guna (TTG) alat pencetak biobriket kepada IRTP Tape Singkong Bu Holim. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi tahap perencanaan, pelaksanaan berupa sosialisasi dan pelatihan teknis, serta monitoring dan evaluasi. Sosialisasi dan pelatihan teknis dilakukan secara partisipatif, melibatkan pekerja IRTP Tape Singkong Bu Holim dan warga sekitar dalam seluruh proses mulai dari pengeringan, pencampuran, pencetakan hingga pengeringan akhir. Hasil uji laboratorium menunjukkan bahwa biobiobriket memiliki kadar air 12,1%, kadar abu 20,9%, dan nilai kalor 3709,520 kkal/kg, Meskipun belum sepenuhnya mencapai kriteria kualitas yang ditetapkan dalam SNI 01-6235-2000, produk ini tetap menunjukkan potensi sebagai bahan bakar alternatif yang lebih bersih. Secara ekonomi, biaya produksinya sebesar Rp8.000/kg. Penerapan teknologi ini terbukti mampu mengurangi limbah, mengurangi penggunaan kayu bakar, serta membuka peluang wirausaha berbasis energi alternatif yang lebih ramah lingkungan.
