Abstract

This study aimed to experimentally verify the effectiveness of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program based on behavioral theory in improving desired behaviors among children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The research employed an experimental method with equivalent groups design (experimental and control) using pre-test and post-test measurements. The research population consisted of all children diagnosed with ASD in Duhok Governorate and Zakho Independent Administration in Iraq, from which a purposive sample of 34 children was selected and randomly assigned to experimental (n=17) and control (n=17) groups. The Autism Behavior Rating Scale was used as the primary measurement instrument after establishing its validity and reliability. The ABA program, implemented over 15 weeks through 30 sessions, incorporated comprehensive behavioral strategies including positive reinforcement, shaping, sequencing, and modeling. Results showed significant improvements in the behavioral dimension among the experimental group compared to the control group, while no statistically significant differences were found in the social dimension between groups despite observable improvements. Within-group analysis demonstrated significant improvements in both behavioral and social dimensions for the experimental group when comparing pre-test and post-test scores. These findings confirm ABA's effectiveness in improving desired behaviors among children with ASD, particularly when implemented systematically with individualized adaptations.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program according to behavioral theory in improving dopamine levels in children with autism spectrum disorder. The study sample consisted of (14) children with autism spectrum disorder in the experimental group. The experimental method with pre-post test design was used. Dopamine levels were measured through analysis of homovanillic acid (HVA) using ELISA technique. The results showed statistically significant differences at the level of (0.05) between pre and post measurements in favor of the post measurement, where the mean increased from (4.285) to (5.3349). The calculated t-value was (3.041) which is greater than the tabulated value (2.160). The effect size was (0.813) indicating high effectiveness of the program. The study recommends implementing ABA program as a therapeutic intervention to improve dopamine levels and integrating neurobiological and behavioral interventions in rehabilitation programs for children with autism spectrum disorder.

Abstract

Peace education globally equips students with skills for harmony and conflict prevention using innovative methods, technology, and community initiatives, fostering intercultural understanding and sustainable peace. This study aims to evaluate HWPL’s peace education program’s impact on intercultural sensitivity, student attitudes, behaviours, and its implications for Iraqi university curricula. This study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative research to assess the impact of HWPL’s 12 peace education lessons. The research spanned one semester (15 weeks) during the 2023–2024 academic year, with data analysed using SPSS. The study’s findings revealed a statistically significant difference between pre-test and post-test results, favouring the post-test, indicating improved student understanding of peace education. The mean scores of the 12 lessons ranged from 1.93 to 2.26, with lesson 2, focused on appreciating diverse viewpoints, traditions, races, and affiliations to promote societal harmony, ranking highest at 2.26. The results positively impacted university students’ perspectives towards peace education. Additionally, no statistically significant gender differences were found in average peace education scores. The researchers concluded with several recommendations and suggestions for future studies to explore this field further. Conclusion: The study showed that peace education significantly improved students’ understanding of peace and diversity, supporting its expansion in universities, schools, and international collaborations.
