Abstract

Inflation is an economic phenomenon that affects not only price stability but also reflects the moral condition and governance of a country. In the perspective of Islamic economics, Al-Maqrizi, a 15th-century Muslim thinker, viewed inflation as a consequence of moral degradation, weak governance, and uncontrolled money circulation. This study aims to examine Al-Maqrizi’s thoughts on inflation in depth, including its definition, classification, causes, and proposed solutions. Using a qualitative descriptive method through literature review, this research highlights Al-Maqrizi’s classification of inflation into natural inflation—caused by environmental factors—and man-made inflation—resulting from corruption, excessive taxation, and over-issuance of paper money. Al-Maqrizi proposed Sharia-based solutions, such as moral reform, the use of gold and silver currencies (dinar and dirham), and fair wealth distribution. His ideas are highly relevant in addressing contemporary economic challenges. By integrating spiritual, moral, and technical dimensions, Al-Maqrizi’s perspective offers a valuable contribution to developing just and sustainable Islamic economic policies.

Abstract

The Methodology of Syarh Hadith: A Study of Interpretive Methods and Approaches Syarh hadith refers to the science of explaining the authenticity and potential flaws in the matn (text) and sanad (chain of transmission) of hadiths, interpreting their meanings, and deriving legal rulings and moral wisdoms from them. This study aims to explore the methodology of syarh hadith, including the methods of fiqh al-hadith, interpretive techniques, and the various approaches used in understanding the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) both textually and contextually. The research adopts a qualitative approach through library research, utilizing primary sources from classical and contemporary works of syarh hadith, and secondary data from relevant academic journals. Data collection was conducted by tracing, reading, note-taking, and classifying information, which was then analyzed using a descriptive-analytical method. The findings of this study reveal that the primary methods of syarh hadith include taḥlili (analytical), ijmali (comprehensive or summary), muqaran (comparative), and mauḍu‘i (thematic) methods. The fiqh al-hadith methodology is divided into two main approaches: textual and contextual. The interpretive techniques employed in syarh hadith encompass linguistic, historical, scientific, interdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary approaches. This research emphasizes that mastery of these methods and approaches is crucial for maintaining the authenticity of the Prophet’s sayings and preventing misinterpretations in the practice of Islamic teachings in modern society.

Abstract

This paper explores the development of Qur’anic exegesis methodology from the classical to the contemporary period using a qualitative library research approach. The study aims to identify the various interpretive methods employed by Qur’anic scholars (mufassir) throughout history, as well as their significance in preserving the integrity of divine revelation and addressing the demands of changing times. Qur’anic interpretation requires a robust methodological foundation to avoid misinterpretation. Historically, methods such as bi al-ma’tsur (transmitted), bi al-ra’yi (reason-based), ijmali (general), tahlili (analytical), maudhu’i (thematic), and muqaran (comparative) have evolved to suit different socio-religious contexts. In the modern era, new approaches like contextual, maqasidi, and scientific interpretations have emerged in response to contemporary issues such as environmentalism, gender, and pluralism. This study also highlights the importance of mastering auxiliary sciences such as Arabic grammar, rhetoric, and the reasons for revelation (asbab al-nuzul) as prerequisites for valid interpretation. Thus, the methodology of tafsir is not merely an academic tool but a spiritual framework ensuring that the divine message of the Qur’an remains authentic, relevant, and applicable across time and context.
