Abstract

Middle adulthood (ages 41-60) is a critical transitional stage in human life marked by physical, psychosocial, and cognitive changes. This article provides a comprehensive overview of biological transformations such as muscle mass decline, hormonal shifts, and gradual organ function deterioration, all of which significantly impact quality of life. It also addresses psychosocial challenges including identity crises, the pressures of being part of the “sandwich generation,” marital conflicts, and mental health issues. Cognitively, this stage offers potential for growth in critical, logical, and integrative thinking, supported by accumulated life experience. A multidisciplinary approach, including Islamic perspectives, is employed to offer a holistic understanding of this life phase. The article further outlines adaptive strategies to support individuals during middle adulthood, such as regular physical activity, cognitive training, social engagement, and spiritual development. With appropriate understanding and support, middle adulthood can become a meaningful and productive period of life.

Abstract

Late adulthood is a phase of human development marked by significant physical, cognitive, emotional, and social changes. This paper aims to examine in depth the various aspects that occur in individuals over the age of 60, ranging from body transformation, cognitive decline, to psychosocial challenges faced, such as loneliness, loss of a partner, and adaptation to retirement. The author also discusses the various personality types of the elderly and the factors that influence their character, both in terms of genetics, life experiences, healthc onditions, and social and cultural environments. This paper highlights the importance of an effective communication approach and the crucial role of family and environmental support in maintaining the quality of life of the elderly. With a comprehensive understanding of late adulthood, it is hoped that society can provide proper attention and respect for the elderly and prepare themselves to enter this stage of life more wisely.
