Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between perfectionism and academic burnout among final-year students in Jakarta. Academic burnout is defined as stress arising from the learning process that results in emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and low academic performance (Sagita & Meilyawati, 2021). Perfectionism is considered a personality disposition characterized by concerns about self-evaluation, overly critical self-assessment, and striving to achieve perfect personal standards (Hill, 2017). This study employs a quantitative approach, involving final-year university students in Jakarta aged 20–25 years who are in their 7th–9th semesters. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The measurement tools used were the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale developed by Flett and Hewitt (1991) and the School Burnout Inventory developed by Salmela-Aro, Kiuru, Leskinen, and Nurmi in 2009. The results of the correlation test using Pearson Correlation yielded a value of r = 0.854, with significance 0.000 p < 0.05. These results indicate that there is a relationship between perfectionism and academic burnout among final-year students in Jakarta. Based on the correlation test per dimension, the results show that there is a relationship between perfectionism and all dimensions of academic burnout, especially the exhaustion dimension. Additionally, there is a relationship between academic burnout and all dimensions of perfectionism, particularly the socially prescribed perfectionism dimension. This indicates that the higher an individual's level of perfectionism, the higher their level of academic burnout.

Abstract

Young married couples in Jakarta often face challenges in balancing work and family demands, which can lead to role conflict. This conflict contributes to decreased marital satisfaction, especially when individuals have low emotional regulation. This community service (PKM) activity aims to provide psychoeducation on role conflict, marital satisfaction, and emotional regulation strategies to young employees of PT Treasure Citrarasa Indonesia through an online seminar. The activity was conducted in three stages: pre-test, presentation of material, and interactive discussion. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of role conflict and emotional regulation strategies, as well as a greater awareness of the importance of adaptive communication in marital relationships. Additionally, participants gained new insights into how effective emotional regulation can reduce stress and improve marital satisfaction. Thus, this psychoeducation activity has the potential to be an effective intervention in enhancing relational well-being for young couples, particularly in managing role conflict amidst work and family demands. The activity also highlights the importance of understanding and applying emotional regulation strategies in daily life to maintain marital harmony.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the emotional intelligence profile of young adult women who grew up without a father. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to gain an in-depth understanding of the emotional experiences of the participants. There were ten participants, all young adult women who grew up without a father. Data collection was conducted through observation and semi-structured interviews. Data analysis used the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the participants' emotional intelligence was still developing and was greatly influenced by their life experiences without a father. An unstable childhood also contributed to different emotional adaptations in each participant. The participants' emotional intelligence showed positive development, but had not yet reached the ideal level. This fatherless condition presented emotional challenges that shaped the participants' adaptive abilities in early adulthood.

Abstract

The increasingly intensive development of digital technology has heightened the risk of digital stress, particularly among Generation Z, who exhibit high levels of digital connectivity, while individual differences in responses to digital demands are presumed to be influenced by personality characteristics. This study aimed to analyze the role of the Big Five Personality Traits in digital stress among Generation Z in Indonesia. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was employed, involving 390 Generation Z individuals aged 18–28 years selected using non-probability sampling. Data were collected online using the Digital Stress Scale and The Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R), then analyzed using linear regression to examine the contribution of personality traits to digital stress and differences in digital stress levels based on screen time duration. The results showed that the Big Five Personality Traits, taken together, played a significant role in digital stress with a contribution of 28.7%. Partially, neuroticism, extraversion, and conscientiousness had a significant positive effect on digital stress, whereas openness and agreeableness had a significant negative effect. In addition, differences in digital stress levels were found based on screen time duration, with individuals who spent more than six hours per day on screens tending to experience higher digital stress. The study concludes that personality is an important internal factor in explaining individual vulnerability to digital stress and highlights the importance of personality-based approaches in designing prevention strategies and intervention programs for managing digital stress, particularly among Generation Z.

Abstract

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events that may have long-term impacts on individuals’ psychological development, including their emotion regulation abilities in adulthood. This study aimed to examine the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and emotion regulation among young adults. A non-experimental quantitative approach with a correlational design was employed. The participants were 375 young adults recruited through purposive sampling. Data were collected online using the Indonesian version of the World Health Organization Adverse Childhood Experiences International Questionnaire (WHO ACE-IQ) to measure adverse childhood experiences and an emotion regulation scale to assess emotion regulation abilities. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s correlation test. The results showed a significant positive relationship between adverse childhood experiences and emotion regulation (r = 0.445; p < 0.001) with a moderate effect size, indicating that the higher the level of adverse childhood experiences, the higher the emotion regulation scores among young adults. These findings suggest that traumatic experiences in childhood are associated with individuals’ emotion regulation patterns in adulthood, highlighting the need for serious attention as well as preventive efforts and early interventions targeting adverse childhood experiences.
