Abstract

This paper presents the development of an impedance tuner realized in the WR-340 waveguide for use in S-band networks (2.45 GHz ISM band). The tuner is a double-stub structure designed to be adjoined to a reflectometer and performs automatic impedance matching using the reflectometer’s measurements through a closed-loop feedback mechanism. The device is designed to work under the full operating conditions of high-power microwave generators. Simulations and preliminary measurements show that the impedance tuner performance is stable and temperature independent. The system is suited for on-line monitoring and control of network parameters in industrial waveguide applications

Abstract

This paper describes the development of a high frequency (HF) antenna for high output power vicinity coupling devices (VCDs) operating at 13.56 MHz. Key design parameters, such as RF power level, antenna size, and communication protocol, and their link to the antenna features and requirements, have been discussed. For efficient reader interrogation, detection, and recovery of transponder responses, a tuning circuit necessary to adjust the antenna power matching and resonance characteristics was designed and prototyped. The antenna was fed to an industry standard reader and evaluated for read range performance with vicinity cards. The designed antenna on the reader achieved a good read range, which demonstrated fair agreement with the calculated theoretical results.

Abstract

Since their inception, mobile robots have enormously changed the landscape of robotics engineering in recent years. Imperatively, the impact of mobile robots has positively transformed many sectors of human endeavors, i.e., complemented and substituted humans in areas where human interactions were difficult, hazardous, and impossible to thrive and operate. In this regard, the contributions of mobile robots to scientific, social, and economic growth, development, and advancement cannot be overlooked, especially through its decades of transition from Industry 3.0 to 4.0 over the years. To achieve maximum benefits from the use of mobile robots across all important facets, their advancements and technologies need to be continuously improved to address all relevant issues with regard to associated challenges in navigation, control, remote sensing, and tele-operability. This paper presents a comprehensive review of selected key areas of mobile robot technology where major advancements have been made and are currently ongoing to solve numerous problems effectively with less human effort. In addition, highlights of the challenges faced by mobile robots and autonomous vehicle control have been extensively discussed and recommendations have been given to enhance the efficient and safe use of mobile robots in the event of a change in task complexity in all essentials of human life.
