Abstract

Waste banks, as a model of social innovation, have emerged as a key strategy in community-based waste management in Yogyakarta City. This study aims to examine how waste banks contribute to building collective awareness among residents regarding the importance of source-based waste management. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, field observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that waste banks function not only as facilities for collecting sorted waste, but also as centers for community education and empowerment. The main challenges lie in uneven participation and a lack of supporting infrastructure. This study highlights the importance of cross-sectoral support to enhance the social impact of waste banks.
