Abstract

This study aims to find out the factors that inhibit reading learning in grade II students of SD Negeri 2 Babat. This study uses qualitative research methods. Data collection techniques were used, namely observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that there are factors that inhibit reading learning in grade II students of SD Negeri 2 Babat, namely internal factors and external factors. Internal factors, which come from the students themselves, include not knowing the letters, not knowing the meaning of the words they read, not being able to read fluently, lack of interest in learning to read, lack of enthusiasm in learning to read, students having difficulty focusing on learning to read, students not being able to answer questions about what they read, students having difficulty combining letters into words, students not understanding punctuation and the use of intonation when reading punctuation. External factors are factors that come from outside the student including the school environment, family environment, and peer influence. The school environment is the lack of facilities in the school such as books and reading corners/reading corners, the approach taken by teachers is less interesting and boring for students, libraries that should be used as a place for student literacy cannot be used because schools lack space for learning, and student interaction with peers is relatively low, thus reducing opportunities to share reading experiences or discuss reading.
