Abstract

Indirect Written Corrective Feedback (WCF) is a type of feedback on linguistic errors without giving the correct target form. This type of feedback is recommended under the consideration that teachers are not editors, but facilitators who provide hints to assist students work on their own text. This research investigated the students? affective reactions toward indirect WCF in the process of learning writing. It was also purposed to investigate its impact on students? writing quality. The subject of the research was the first-year students of English Study Program. The method of the research was descriptive qualitative. The instruments of interview and writing assignment were deployed as the data. It was found there were positive affective reactions toward the implementation of Indirect WCF. Students thought that it was useful, helpful, motivating, corrective, and informative. Nevertheless, a few students felt that the time given was too short and demanded for more accurate and clear correction codes. It was also found that Indirect WCF helped the participant students gain better quality of their paragraph writing indicated in the significant reducing number of errors after receiving feedback. Though the most types of linguistic errors were found in the case of tenses, students were able to minimize those errors into a few.

Abstract

Teaching speaking to the first year students of English Department is intended to give basic competence in communication in English to the students. In the effort of upgrading the students’ ability in spoken language, the writer as the lecturer takes the topic of the research about the learning model of role play to increase the students’ aural communication skill. The research is purposed to describe how the role play as the classroom activities should be done in the classroom as well as the impact. The method of the research is the experimental method. The writer took 25 students. The technique of collecting the data that the writer used in order to support the research was pre-test and post-test. The result showed that the learning model of role-playing encouraged students to memorize, drill the expressions, and act out the roles. The data of scoring through analytical method was analyzed by using t-test formula. From the analysis of t-observed, it was found that the role-play technique was able to lead the students toward the better speaking performance. It means that the role-play technique has significant impact on the students’ face to face communication skill. In other words, the students found it helpful to perform their aural communication skill through role-playing.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui perbandingan volume perdagangan saham sebelum dan setelah reverse stock split, abnormal return sebelum dan setelah reverse stock split pada perusahaan PT Samindo Resources Tbk. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian studi kasus karena hanya menggunakan satu perusahaan saja. Metode analisis data yang digunakan yaitu analisis deskrptif, uji normalitas, uji paired sample t-Test, dan uji hipotesis. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian menggunakan uji paired sample t-test diperoleh bahwa terdapa tperbedaan yang signifikan dari volume perdagangan saham dan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan abnormal return sebelum dan setelah reverse stock split, sehingga hipotesis nol ditolak.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the signification of factors that affect the company's profitability through the Inflation factor as a moderation variable. The research method used is a quantitative research method. The population in this study of financial institutions in the banking sector in Indonesia is conventional commercial banks and observational data during 2016 - 2020. The sampling measurement technique uses purposive sampling. The sampling technique uses secondary data, namely published financial statements. The data analysis technique used is to use descriptive statistical analysis before and after the existence of interactive variables, then followed by multiple regression and testing moderation variables all variables tested using the entered method. The results of the study explained that before the moderation variable, namely the credit risk interaction variable, it had an insignificant effect on profitability.

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, teaching and learning activities have been shifted to online learning. Therefore, online discussion activities were carried out to achieve learning objectives. The transition of learning methods was expected to be able to replace face-to-face teaching and learning activities in schools. This research aimed to find out the reflection on the problems and how to solve the problems in online discussion activities by EFL Student-Teachers. The method used in this research is qualitative with narrative as the research design. Providing a questionnaire and interview that must be answered by EFL Student-Teachers. The participants of this research were 26 EFL Student-Teachers from one of the University in Cirebon who have carried out PLP II activities. The results of this research indicated that online discussion activities required good media and preparation for teaching and learning activities. EFL Student-Teachers were required to be creative in carried online discussion activities to get students' attention, and EFL Student-Teachers must be able to solve the problem faced during the online discussion as the reflection of teaching and learning activities. Abstract

Film is one of the media to communicate to the audience. The film "Turning Red" shows a picture of how parenting can affect the growth and development of children, this film also features elements of Chinese culture. The film "Turning Red" is interesting to study because it has moral values that can be a reflection for parents in educating children. Researchers want to see the relationship between signs and objects to explain the representation of Chinese culture and the influence of parenting on child development through gestures, expressions, and colors, on the characters Mei and Ming in the film "Turning Red". The qualitative research method to analyze multimodality in the film "Turning Red" with a semiotic approach is done by understanding the signs contained in various modes of expression such as visual, language, music, and sound. Multimodal analysis with this semiotic approach can involve understanding how color, music, and language are used to convey cultural and emotional messages in the film, and how all these elements interact to create a deep and meaningful audience experience.

Abstract

Classroom management skill is a crucial part of teachers’ figure. Since barriers in achieving learning goals might come up in every classroom learning activity. In this research, the writer investigated the experience of English teachers through interviews for various problems faced during the teaching learning activities and the management process as the teachers’ efforts to create a conducive classroom activities. the participants were the English teachers at school. The method that the researcher used is qualitative whereas the interview was conducted to gain the data. The data analysis proved that the teachers face the unwanted behavior and attitude of students during the class such as lateness or leaving early , side conversations, indifference to teachers’ instruction, cheating, and having meals without permit. Neverthe lesss, the teaching learning activities can be said running well as the teachers cope with such barriers by deploying learning strategies such as work in group, discussion for problem solving, individual communication, trustbuilding , giving chance for self expression, designing challenging and interesting activities. The teachers’ classroom was able to make the classroom activities comfortable for both teachers and students.

Abstract

Article History: Received yyyy-mm-dd Accepted yyyy-mm-dd Edmodo application is believed to be able to assist teacher in teaching writing to students since it has adequate features to support learning writing activities. The focus of this research is to find out the students’ perception about Edmodo application as a media in learning writing. The writer use qualitative as the research method. The participants are ten grade majoring in Software Enginering of Vocational high school consisting of 34 students by random sampling. To collect the data the writer obtain them by using observation, questionnaire, and interview. The result of the study showed that most of the students enjoy learning English using Edmodo Application. However, there is a technical problem dealing with internet connection, storage and incompatible device. Keywords: Edmondo application, writing, perception
