Abstract

his study aims to analyze the relationship between length-weight, condition factor (K), gonadal maturity stages (GMS), and reproductive strategies of nine fish species captured in the Brantas River, Puri District, Mojokerto. The results indicate that most fish were in GMS II (developing), suggesting that the spawning season was ongoing. Four species—Betok, Kothok, Gatol, and Wader Pari—were found in GMS IV/V, marking the peak or end of the spawning period. The reproductive strategies of these fish species were classified into three main models: seasonal synchronous spawning, batch spawning, and pre-reproductive growth strategies. The findings highlight that the fish community in this river demonstrates flexible reproductive patterns, which serve as an adaptation to the fluctuating environment of the tropical river ecosystem. The contribution of this study lies in the development of a comprehensive model that links key biological parameters—length, weight, condition factor, and gonadal maturity—to the reproductive strategies of riverine fish. This model provides valuable insights into how fish species adapt their reproductive behaviors to the dynamic environmental conditions of tropical river ecosystems. The findings offer practical applications for sustainable fishery management and conservation, enabling more effective monitoring and conservation strategies tailored to specific ecological conditions.

Abstract

Based on FAO data (2010) cited by Khairuman and Amri (2008), the global market demand for fish was still experiencing a supply shortage of 2 million tons per year until 2010. This study discusses the comparison of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) breeding techniques between Jatimbulan at the Freshwater Aquaculture Development Unit in Pasuruan Regency and the Livestock and Fisheries Office in Bondowoso Regency. The aim is to determine the differences in Nile Tilapia breeding techniques between Jatimbulan at the Freshwater Aquaculture Development Unit in Pasuruan and the Livestock and Fisheries Office in Bondowoso, as well as to identify the best breeding methods to achieve superior breeding results, particularly in Nile Tilapia breeding. This research employs a comparative research method. The breeding techniques at the Freshwater Aquaculture Development Unit in Pasuruan and the Fisheries Office in Bondowoso both adhere to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for Nile Tilapia breeding techniques, SNI 7389:2017. The only difference lies in the facilities. The Freshwater Aquaculture Development Unit in Pasuruan has better water source facilities, larger pond sizes, and more extensive land. Therefore, the natural breeding technique for Nile Tilapia at the Freshwater Aquaculture Development Unit in Pasuruan is more effective in producing Nile Tilapia seeds with a higher survival rate

Abstract

Abstract. Isroni W, Pramudia Z, Bahri AS, Risqiana MA, Maulida N, Irawandani TD. 2023. Comparative study of the application fish apartments in Situbondo and Probolinggo, East Java, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 24: 4034-4045. Fisheries resources which are common property in their utilization are vulnerable to overfishing conditions due to exploratory actions. In addition, the use of destructive fishing gear and habitat degradation has a great impact on fisheries productivity which continues to decrease. Fish apartments as alternative artificial habitat have been successfully applied in Probolinggo, especially for coral organisms. This study compares the application of fish apartments in two different locations, Karang Katon Probolinggo and Karang Mayit Beach Situbondo. Through descriptive and valuative approaches, the survey results showed that in Karang Katon there were 5 species, the highest composition level is Acanthurus achilles (51.56%).Karang Mayit Beach there were 3 species, the highest composition level is Chaetodon octofasciatus (60.56%). The highest abundance is Acanthurus achilles (34.4 ind/m2) in Karang Katon and Chaetodon octofasciatus (42.2 ind/m2) in Karang Mayit Beach. The diversity index in Karang Katon-1.280, while in Karang Mayit Beach-0.853. The dominance index in Karang Katon 0.343, while in Karang Mayit Beach 0.496. Based on this research, the analysis showed positive results for both different locations, indicating it can be used as new habitats for sustainability and increased productivity of fisheries resources.

Abstract

Abstract. Pramudia Z, Ismail A, Risqiana MA, Maimunah Y, Bahri AS, Setiawan AF, Kurniawan A. 2026. Feeding regimes influence growth, survival, morphometric indicators, and water quality correlations in Betta splendens (Super Red Plakat strain) fry. Biodiversitas 27 (1): d270114. https://doi.org/10.13057/biodiv/d270114. The early larval stage is crucial for growth and survival in ornamental fish culture, yet feeding strategies for Betta splendens (Super Red Plakat strain) remain underexplored. This study evaluated the effects of five feeding regimes, comprising live prey and formulated diets on the morphometric growth and survival of B. splendens fry during a 28-day post-infusoria rearing period. Five dietary treatments: Artemia nauplii, Alona sp., Moina sp., Daphnia magna, and artificial pellets, with infusoria provided in all treatments during the first week. Survival rate (SR), total length (TL), and standard length (SL) were measured at the end of the experiment. Fry fed with Artemia nauplii and Moina sp. exhibited the highest survival (88-89%) and growth performance (TL up to 15.6 mm), while D. magna resulted in the lowest values. Statistical analysis confirmed significant differences among treatments. Water quality remained within optimal thresholds, ensuring reliable interpretation. Pearson correlation analysis showed strong positive associations among SR, TL, and SL, confirming that survival is closely linked to growth. Moderate correlations between DO and biological metrics suggest oxygen availability may indirectly influence performance. These findings highlight the importance of feed type and particle size compatibility with larval open-mouth for enhancing productivity in B. splendens hatchery practices. The use of Artemia or Moina during the post-infusoria stage can enhance hatchery yield by approximately 10-20%, providing practical guidance for sustainable B. splendens aquaculture and supporting SDG 14 (Life Below Water) through improved fry survival and responsible freshwater biodiversity management.
