Abstract

The cello is a musical instrument that plays a vital and distinctive role in the keroncong music ensemble, primarily as a rhythm keeper during the performance. Nowadays, the way the cello is played in keroncong seems to have evolved. Many young artists are now trying to develop their playing style in new directions, such as by adapting it to other music genres. This indicates that playing the cello in keroncong is not static but continues to evolve alongside changing musical tastes, advancements in technology, and socio-cultural factors, leading to a variety of playing styles among its musicians. The keroncong community in Pacitan experienced this same trend: artists from different generations interact, blend, and create diverse playing styles. This study aims to identify the various cello playing styles within the keroncong music community in Pacitan. The research method is qualitative, employing a musicology approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document review, with data triangulation used for analysis. The findings show that keroncong cello playing goes beyond traditional practices, shaped by social experiences, cross-genre influences, and each artist's role in the local keroncong scene. The study concludes that keroncong cello styles are varied, reflecting each artist's musical interpretation and evolving according to socio-cultural changes.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate an integrated model for deep learning and cultural literacy in teaching regional songs at the junior high/senior high school level within the Merdeka Curriculum framework. Amidst the cultural literacy crisis and the dominance of global pop music that threatens the existence of regional songs among teenagers, a more meaningful and inclusive learning approach is needed. Using a qualitative, literature-based design, this study analyzed curriculum documents and literature on deep learning, cultural literacy, and SDG 4.7. The results show that regional songs are highly relevant to the Music Arts Learning Outcomes and the Global Diversity dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile. The developed integration model consists of four continuous stages: Contextual Exploration, Critical Appreciation, Reflection and Connection, and Creative Expression. The inclusive characteristic is the main uniqueness of this model, as the absence of demands for musical technical skills as prerequisites allows all students to actively participate. This model contributes to achieving SDG 4.7 targets by strengthening the appreciation of cultural diversity and strengthening the Global Diversity dimension in the Pancasila Student Profile. This research provides practical implications for teachers and curriculum developers in designing meaningful and inclusive regional song learning

Abstract

Advances in digital technology have brought new developments in the practice of Do-It-Yourself (DIY) music production, enabling independent musicians to independently create, record, process, and distribute their work through online media. This paper examines DIY music production, utilizing local sounds as a source of creative inspiration, connecting modern technology with cultural identity. A variety of local sounds, such as traditional instruments, environmental sounds, and everyday atmospheres, are processed through sampling, field recording, audio editing, and sound design techniques to produce distinctive musical colors. DIY music production practices not only reflect artistic independence but also serve as a medium for cultural revitalization through the combination of traditional and electronic elements in hybrid compositions. On the other hand, the presence of digital platforms opens up broader opportunities for the distribution of works, online collaboration, and the strengthening of independent music community networks. However, this practice still faces various challenges, such as technical limitations, issues of cultural ethics, and the potential commodification of tradition. Therefore, a critical approach and respect for cultural values are needed so that DIY music production based on local sounds can become a space for artistic innovation and an effort to preserve culture in the digital era.
