Abstract

Knowledge, experience, and collaboration work hand in hand with one another to improve productivity. The global demographic trends highlight an inversion of the farming-community age pyramid, with those age 65 years and over constituting the fastest growing sub-group of the farming population. The study aims to determine the relationship between the farmers experience and age relative to the production of sugarcane crop in the Philippines. Descriptive method of research was employed in the study. The respondents were the 320 sugarcane farmers that were randomly identified at the seven locations in the Visayas area of the Philippines. An instrument used was the validated survey questionnaire used by Oñal (2021). The result show that there a significant difference in the production of sugarcane among seven location in the Visayas, Philippines. Significant differences among the years of experience and farmers age had an effect on the production. Those who are in farming between 11-12 years and aging 36-50 years old have a high production of >65 TC/ha (alpha=0.01) least experience and young farmers. Furthermore, the farmers experience and their age level are moderately correlated (alpha=0.01). Government and other people organization should provide more scholarship or trainings to include private colleges or universities offering courses in agriculture. Tech-voc courses or trainings offered by TESDA be made available to everyone especially the out of school youth.

Abstract

The study sought to determine the effects of different levels of concentrations of bio-stimulant solution (BSS) in improving the growth and yield performance of peanut plant. The study was conducted at UNO-R, Inc, Philippines last February to June 2024.  Biyaya variety was used as planting material. The study was layout in RCBD (Randomized Complete Block Design) with 4 treatments, and replicated 4 times. BSS was diluted in water and applied 6 inches from the base of each plant. Statistical analysis revealed highly significant differences among treatments in growth parameters such as germination period and flower initiation, plant height, weight of stems and leaves, and biomass. For the period of germination, highest plant height, weight of stems and leaves, biomass, and period of flowering they were obtained from plants applied with 15%, followed by 10%, and 5% BSS (ɑ =0.01), respectively. On the other hand, untreated plants have the longest days of germination, shortest height, lightest weight of stem and leaves, as well as the biomass, and late in flower initiation.This study recommends the application of 15% BSS for optimal peanut growth and yield.

Abstract

Aspirations are long-term ambitions in one’s life.  Farmers aspire to achieve happiness in their faming activities. Happy farmers are satisfied individual that can easily increase their sugarcane production. The study aims to measure the aspirations of the farmers and its correlation to the level of the production of sugarcane crop in the Philippines. Descriptive method was employed in the study. The instrument used was the validated survey questionnaire used by the group of Oñal on their study in 2021. The 320 sugarcane farmers were randomly identified at the seven locations in the Visayas area of the Philippines.  Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) shows that there’s a significant difference in the production of sugarcane among location with an average of 50-64 Tons Cane per hectare (TC/ha) (alpha = 0.05). Furthermore, a significant differences in terms of farmers emotional well-being (happy farmers) indicates a high production of >65 TC/ha (alpha = 0.05). Relatively, the degree of farmers’ happiness have weak to moderate correlation with sugarcane production (alpha = 0.01). Considering that farmers degree of happiness indicates a weak to moderate correlation with productivity, interventions that enhance farmers’ well-being such as; stable pricing, affordable credit, and efficient milling may indirectly contribute to improved yields.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the effects of different levels of concentrations of bio-stimulant solution (BSS) in enhancing the growth and yield of bush sitao plant. The study was conducted at Bacolod City, Philippines. It was laid-out in RCBD (Randomized Complete Block Design) with 4 treatments, and replicated 4 times. Statistical analysis revealed a highly significant differences among treatments in growth parameters such as the flower initiation, plant height, weight of stems and leaves, and biomass from plants applied with 15% BSS (ɑlpha = 0.01). Furthermore, results indicated highly significant differences with yield parameters as well, namely the number of pods per plant, pod weight per plant, number of seeds per pod, total weight of 100-seeds, and the yield in kg/ha (ɑlpha = 0.01). The weight of stems and leaves and biomass accumulation were strongly correlated with the plant height while weight of roots were correlated moderately (ɑlpha = 0.01). Relatively, the number of pods per plant, pod weight, as well as the number of seeds per pods were strongly correlated with the yield. Based on excellent results of the study, for bush sitao it is recommended to apply BSS with a concentration of 15% in order to enhance the growth and yield of the plant. Furthermore the result could contribute to organic farming and food sustainability program being aspired in the whole world.

Innovations employed in farming are usually done by integrating the existing sugarcane production technologies.  The main purpose of innovation is to increase production and to sustain the sugarcane industry. The study aims to validate some of the soil rejuvenation and post-harvest innovations practiced by the farmers that could affect their sugar production. The descriptive method of research is employed in the study.  The 320 sugarcane farmers were randomly identify at the seven locations in the Visayas area of the Philippines using the Slovin’s formula. An instrument used was the validated survey questionnaire used by the group of Oñal in their study since 2021.  Frequency count, mean, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation were utilized in the data analyses. Key findings showed that the average production of sugarcane farms in the Visayas was between 50-64 tons per hectare (TC/ha) when grouped by location (alpha = 0.05). Correlation analysis show that application of correct quantity of lime and mill waste have a strong relationship with production (ɑlpha = 0.01), while the correct lime placement (ɑlpha = 0.05) and practice of green manuring (ɑlpha = 0.01) have a moderate relationship, respectively. For post-harvest innovations, correlation analysis implied that the delivery of freshly cut cane to the mill is strongly correlated with the production.

Abstract

Economically, the sugarcane industry is one of the major sources of dollar income in the Philippines.  It is planted in different types of soil, environments, and cultural management. Sugarcane is a voracious eater of fertilizer. The main purpose of innovating the fertilization activities in the farm is to increase production in order to sustain the sugarcane industry. The study aims to measure the fertilization innovations practice by the farmers that could affect the production of the sugarcane crop in the Philippines. The descriptive method was employed in the study. The instrument used was the validated survey questionnaire used by the group of Oñal in their study in 2021. The 320 sugarcane farmers were randomly identified at the seven locations in the Visayas area of the Philippines. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) implied that there’s a significant difference in the production of sugarcane among the different locations in the Philippines. Furthermore, the frequency of applying the fertilizers, the correct placement of fertilizers, maximizing the application of N and K elements, and the combo application of organic-inorganic fertilizers implied a high production respectively.  The correct placement of fertilizers and the application of organic-inorganic fertilizers were strongly correlated with sugarcane production but moderately correlated with the level of N and P elements applied. The study revealed that fertilization innovations had a significant relationship in increasing the productivity of the sugarcane crop in the Philippines.

Abstract

The profitability of any chicken industry can always be correlated with increasing production. In the Philippines, as of the first quarter of 2022, poultry production had expanded by 12.3% because Filipino’s diet relies heavily on meat, thus placing livestock and poultry among essential segments of the country’s agriculture. The study aims to determine the level of mungbean sprouts that can complement the commercial feeds, which can ultimately improve the weekly body gain weight (WBGW) of broiler chickens and low feed conversion ratio (FCR). The study used the standard Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications. The mung beans were prepared in advance, taking care every day. The sprouting period of mung beans took about a week. Significant differences were revealed among treatments. Analysis of Variance implied that broiler chickens whose feed ration was complemented with 15% of mungbean sprouts had the highest WBGW of 546,67 grams and the lowest FCR of 1.74 at 28 days, respectively.  The study recommends mixing 15% mungbean sprouts into the feed ration of broiler chickens for up to 28 days to improve the weight gain.

Abstract

Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum, L.) is a perennial plant in the Poaceae family.  It is considered an important crop because it has the capacity to produce sucrose, accounting for up to 50% of the dry weight of a mature stalk.  In the Philippines, the sugarcane industry is one of the major dollar income industries. The study aims to determine the different sugarcane characteristics preferred by the farmers to plant and their relation to the volume of production in the Philippines. The descriptive-correlation method was employed in the study. The instrument used was the validated survey questionnaire used by the group of Oñal in their study in 2021. The 320 sugarcane farmers were randomly identified at the seven locations in the Visayas area of the Philippines. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) implied that there’s a significant difference in the production of sugarcane among the different locations in the Philippines. On sugarcane characteristics, the color of the stalks, stalk growth morphology, and the number of millable stalks at harvest implied a significant difference in production.  The stalk color and number of millable stalks at harvest were strongly correlated with the volume of production. The studyrevealed that in the characterization of sugarcane varieties in the Philippines, the stalk color and number of millable stalks should be given an impetus before releasing the varieties to farmers. The results of the study will enhance the government's average national target of production to 75 tons/ha and sustain the Philippine sugar industry.
