Abstract

Inadequate alveolar bone volume is one of the problems in dental implant treatment plans. In some cases, with large bone defects, bone augmentation using autologous, allogenic, xenogenic, or alloplastic bone biomaterials is one of the solutions. Autograft is the safest standard for bone graft because it has three main graft properties: osteogenetic, osteoconduction, and osteoinduction, along with its supporting structure. One of the ideal autograft donors is the iliac bone. The iliac bone is still the gold standard of donor for autografts. The purpose of this case report is to evaluate the volume of alveolar bone after iliac graft placement. A 38-year-old male patient came with complaints about difficulty chewing due to the loss of several teeth and alveolar bone volume after marginal resection of the mandible caused by ameloblastoma, which occurred 1 year ago, and requested a fabrication of dentures. The management of this case included mandibular reconstruction and vertical ridge augmentation with an iliac graft. The treatment outcome showed good osteointegration. Alveolar bone augmentation with an iliac bone autograft can be considered in the alveolar bone defect treatment plan after marginal resection and mandibular reconstruction.
