Abstract

Social change in Indonesia presents complex humanitarian challenges, ranging from natural disasters and migration to structural poverty. This situation demands public policies that not only emphasize administrative effectiveness but also take ethical dimensions into account. This article aims to analyze social change from the perspective of the ethics of care and examine how this ethical framework can be applied as a foundation for public policy formulation. The research method employed is qualitative-analytical with a literature study approach, through a critical review of policy documents, government reports, and relevant academic literature. The analysis shows that Indonesian public policies often remain technocratic and procedural, as seen in delayed disaster relief, misdirected COVID-19 cash assistance, and the digital gap in the Pre-Employment Card Program. Integrating care principles empathy, relational responsibility, and attentiveness to vulnerability can enhance legitimacy and effectiveness in public policy. This article recommends adopting the ethics of care as an alternative paradigm in public administration so that social change can be managed in a more humane, just, and sustainable manner.

Abstract

Religious Trauma Syndrome (RTS) has gained increasing scholarly and clinical attention as reports of psychological and spiritual distress linked to religious environments emerge across diverse contexts worldwide. Introduced by Marlene Winell, RTS refers to symptoms such as guilt, shame, fear of divine punishment, anxiety, and depression that persist beyond the individual’s departure from a religious community. This study seeks to examine the root causes of RTS through a qualitative library research approach, drawing on Winell’s work and recent studies within the past five years. Findings suggest that trauma is more often generated by the interpretation and enforcement of doctrine rather than by religious teachings themselves. Four major contributing factors were identified: pathological altruism, spiritual abuse, fear-inducing dogmatism, and exclusive community pressure. By distinguishing religion as a value system from harmful practices, this study contributes theoretically to the conceptual understanding of RTS and practically to therapeutic, educational, and communal strategies for creating spiritually safe environments.

Abstract

Epistemology is one of the category of philosophy that explores the nature and origin of knowledge. The nuances of epistemological thought are influenced by the thinkers' backgrounds and the sources of their philosophical perspectives. One of the figure in Islamic Philosophy is Mehdi Ha’iri Yazdi. Mehdi, an Iranian philosopher from a Shia family, hails from a lineage of revered religious figures. Influenced by the illuminative thought and preceding Islamic philosophers such as Al Farabi, Ibn Sina, and Al Ghazali, Mehdi is renowned for his epistemological concept known as Ilmu Hudhuri, which translates to knowledge by presence. His reflections on knowledge by presence delve into the intersection of illuminative philosophy and the Islamic philosophical tradition. In his book "The Principles of Epistemology in Islamic Philosophy: Knowledge by Presence," Mehdi also addresses another form of knowledge, namely knowledge by correspondence. Employing qualitative research methods and literature review, this article aims to explore the relationship between these two forms of knowledge (knowledge by presence and knowledge by correspondence) and the extent to which illuminative relations play a role in their dynamics.
