Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ wiring ability in descriptive texts at SMP Negeri 29 Padang. This research used a quantitative approach with a one-time pre-experimental case study design, involving 30 eighth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data was collected through pre-test and post-test writing assessments, evaluated based on five criteria: content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics. The findings show that students' writing abilities before the intervention were generally low, with a mean score of 39.8, showing limitations in the organization of ideas, use of vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. After receiving treatment through animated media, the mean score increased to 54.8, showing significant improvement in all aspects evaluated. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank test showed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores (Z = -4.784, p = 0.001 < 0.05), confirming that animated media had a positive impact on students' writing performance. These results suggest that animation can improve descriptive writing ability students
