Abstract

ABSTRACT Mathematical problem-solving skills are an important competency in the 21st century, but it is still a challenge for junior high school students due to the low active involvement of students in the learning process and the limitations of conventional learning media that do not support critical and exploratory thinking processes. This study aims to test the effectiveness of discovery-based interactive learning media in improving the mathematical problem-solving ability of grade VIII junior high school students. This study uses a quantitative method with a one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of the study were grade VIII students in one of the junior high schools in Yogyakarta who were selected purposively. The research instruments were in the form of mathematical problem-solving ability tests and media implementation observation sheets. Data analysis was carried out using a paired sample t-test with the help of SPSS 25. The results showed a significant increase in mathematical problem-solving ability after the use of learning media, with an average difference in pretest and posttest scores of 31.806 points and a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). All mathematical problem-solving indicators improved, with the "understanding the problem" indicator showing the highest improvement. This shows that discovery-based interactive learning media is able to support students in building conceptual understanding from the early stages of problem solving. It can be concluded that interactive learning media based on discovery learning is effectively used to improve the mathematical problem-solving skills of junior high school students. The implication of this study is the need to develop and apply interactive learning media based on a constructivist approach more broadly in mathematics learning. Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya hasil belajar matematika siswa pada materi aljabar yang bersifat abstrak dan sering dianggap sulit dipahami oleh siswa Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP). Aljabar menuntut kemampuan berpikir simbolik dan konseptual, sehingga diperlukan media pembelajaran yang mampu menjembatani pemahaman dari konsep konkret menuju abstrak. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar matematika siswa kelas VII SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Depok melalui penggunaan media pembelajaran interaktif berbasis Scratch. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus, masing-masing terdiri atas tahap perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi aktivitas belajar siswa, tes hasil belajar, serta dokumentasi kegiatan pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan hasil belajar yang signifikan setelah penerapan media Scratch. Pada siklus I, ketuntasan belajar siswa hanya mencapai 12,5%, sedangkan pada siklus II meningkat menjadi 100%. Nilai hasil belajar tertinggi mencapai 94, dan nilai terendah 71, dengan seluruh siswa melampaui Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM). Peningkatan tersebut menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media Scratch mampu memfasilitasi siswa untuk belajar secara lebih aktif, interaktif, dan konstruktif. Selain itu, media ini juga meningkatkan motivasi, keterlibatan, dan rasa percaya diri siswa dalam mempelajari matematika. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan media pembelajaran Scratch mampu meningkatkan hasil belajar matematika siswa, khususnya pada materi aljabar di kelas VII SMP.
