Abstract

Chemistry is a difficult science when studying it, which leads to misconceptions. Misconceptions can be identified using The Four-Tier Diagnostic Test. The aim of the research is to find out misconceptions about solar stoichiometry using The Four-Tier Diagnostic Test. The type of research is descriptive and the research approach is qualitative. The research subjects were students of XII IPA 1, 2, 3, and 4 at SMAN 1 Barabai. The object of research is the misconception of stoichiometric materials. The research results showed that from 9 materials, all of them were proven to be misconceptions. The misconceptions are: (1) The formula used is inverted, (2) Wrong calculation of the number of digits, (3) The formula used is wrong, (4) Two different material concepts but are considered the same, (5) Wrong calculation of the number atoms in molecules, (6) Misunderstanding the definition of the concept of matter, (7) Wrongly determining the value of the concept of matter.

Abstract

A book based on the integration of science and Islam can make it easier for students to understand the material and improve learning outcomes. The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the book : Atomic Structure and Chemical Element (Islamic Perspective). The type of the research is field research with the design: pretest - posttest control group design. The sample is 10 Tadris Chemistry Students for the Atomic Structure and Chemical Element Class, Odd Semester 2022/2023 selected to ensure a representative group. Data collection techniques are interview, documentation, and test question. The data are analyzed by using the N-Gain test. The average N-Gain score of students is 0.6 in the moderate category. The results of the N-Gain of students show that the book developed can improve students' knowledge and understanding. This explains that the learning outcomes of the cognitive aspect have increased. The results of the study on a small scale prove that the book developed is suitable in chemistry learning on the material Atomic Structure and Chemical Element and can be effective in improving student understanding.

Abstract

Concepts in chemistry are mostly abstract concepts. The low understanding of chemical concepts results in concept errors. Students' concept errors can be identified by giving tests and analyzing students' answers to the questions given. The purpose of the study was to describe concept errors in the material of chemical formulas, names and reaction equations using a four-tier multiple choice diagnostic test. The type of research used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The research subjects were 54 students of class X IPA MAN 1 Banjarmasin. The object of research is the conceptual errors of chemical formulas, names and chemical reaction equations in students. The instruments used were four tier diaganostic tests and interviews to analyze students' concept errors. The results showed that students experienced concept errors that occurred in the concepts of: (a) chemical formulas (determining molecular and empirical formulas had concept errors) by 20.4% (b) compound names (determining the name of polyatomic compounds according to IUPAC rules) by 27.8%, (determining the name of basic compounds) by 26%, (c) reaction equations (equalizing reaction equations) by 33.6%. Fourtier multiple choice diagnostic test is effective to determine students' conceptual errors.   Konsep dalam ilmu kimia sebagian besar berupa konsep abstrak. Rendahnya pemahaman konsep-konsep kimia sehingga menimbulkan kesalahan konsep. Kesalahan konsep siswa dapat diketahui dengan memberikan tes dan menganalisis jawaban siswa terhadap soal yang diberikan. Tujuan penelitian untuk mendeskripsikan kesalahan konsep pada materi rumus kimia, tata nama dan persamaan reaksi menggunakan four-tier multiple choice diagnostic test. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Subjek penelitian yaitu 54 siswa kelas X IPA MAN 1 Banjarmasin. Objek penelitian yaitu kesalahan konsep rumus kimia, tata nama dan persamaan reaksi kimia pada siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa tes diaganostik four tier dan wawancara untuk menganalisis kesalahan konsep siswa. Hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa siswa mengalami kesalahan konsep yang terjadi pada konsep: (a) rumus kimia (menentukan rumus molekul dan empiris mengalami kesalahan konsep) sebesar 20,4% (b) tata nama senyawa (menentukan tata nama senyawa poliatomik menurut aturan IUPAC) sebesar 27,8%, (menentukan tata nama senyawa basa) sebesar 26%, (c) persamaan reaksi (menyetarakan persamaan reaksi) sebesar 33,6%. Fourtier multiple choice diagnostic test efektif untuk mengetahui kesalahan konsep yang siswa.

Abstract

This research is a detailed examination of the development of the chemistry educational sources. The aims of the research are to describe (1) the validity of teaching material (2) the students' responses to the teaching material developed. The type of research is research and development (R&D), with model 4D by Thiagarajan. The stages development of 4D  are   define, design, develop and  desseminate. The subjects of this study are students and lecturers of UIN Antasari. The data collection techniques and instruments used in this study are interview guides, questionnaires and observations. Based on the results of expert validation: validation of material experts with an average of 81% with the criteria "Very Valid" and validation of media experts with an average of 83.4% with the criteria "Very Valid" state that the teaching material developed is very valid and is suitable as teaching material. The percentage score of 91.6% with the "Very Good" criteria is obtained from the responses of 10 chemistry education students of UIN Antasari Banjarmasin to the teaching material developed. This book can be used in learning process that involves both students and lecturers.  Keywords : Atomic Structure , Islamic Perspective, Self Learning Resource
