Abstract

Small and medium Enterprises are vital in the economy of any country. They generate employment, business besides supporting big industries. Improvement in the services and products of SMEs ensures their survival and transformation to the bigger institutions, In Pakistan Majority of enterprises are SMEs and are pivotal in strengthening the national economy. How they are improving their working at par with market needs is the subject touched upon very little in Pakistani environment. This study aims at mapping the innovation practices in the SMEs irrespective their sector in terms of commercialization so as to ascertain their strategies for better service and production delivery which is significant in their survival. For the purpose. 250 SMEs, selected through purposive random sampling with the help of SMEDA, Provincial Industries Departments, SECP and Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, around the country were studied. Data was collected through an online questionnaire, based on the work Tim Mazzarol et al (2011), comprising 40 items. 12 respondents were interviewed through semi-structured interviews. This study is of articulation in nature and data was analyzed SPSS and Envivo. The results indicated the patterns and preferences of SMEs towards innovation and commercialization by giving a bleak picture in SMEs. The findings suggest massive change of policies in SMEs to make them real booster of economy.

Abstract

This is going to be first ever study that aims to explore phenomenon of loyalty of members in Cooperatives in Pakistan. Cooperatives are unique enterprises in terms of their business model, working on the seven principles of Cooperatives. Members’ participation is the significant element in the functioning of a Cooperatives and this model is getting attention in the emerging economies around the globe. In Pakistan, especially in the Province of the Punjab, 33000+ Cooperative organizations, 255 out of which are Cooperative Housing Societies, play a vital role in different areas of life. In order to ascertain the inclination of the members, who are also consumers in management terms, towards cooperatives, 03 Cooperative Housing Coops i.e. The Cooperative Model Town Society Ltd. Lahore, The State Enterprise Cooperative Housing Society Ltd. Lahore and PASCO Employees Cooperative Housing Society Ltd. Lahore were chosen as research site. Four Proposition i.e Satisfaction, Perceived value, Response to change, and trust were formed and were looked into so as to assess their role on loyalty. Hence, a qualitative approach was adopted. Thematic Analysis was carried out on the data/information retrieved through interviews. It was observed that that perceived value, resistance to change and trust have been treated as important towards members’ loyalty. However, proposition of satisfaction was given little significance. This study gives a future direction of the research in Cooperatives besides providing an insight into managerial implications of the Cooperative Organizations as service providers as well as of cooperative members.

Abstract

Livestock and dairy farming make up the bulk of Pakistan’s economy. Punjab is the hub of agriculture and livestock due to its land and climatic features. However, there have been a lot of challenges that are slowing down the progress. Pandemics, epidemics and climate catastrophes have caused the major impact. Dairy farming is providing livelihood to rural communities but some environmental hazards are also associated with it like greenhouse gases, deforestation etc, animal welfare as well. Sustainable livestock and dairy farming practices are widely applied worldwide and needed to prosper in Pakistan as well. This study is aimed at comparative review of the researches and latest techniques being tested and implemented economically and how can we adopt appropriate techniques to improve the current situation of this sector. There are many latest techniques that offer environmentally friendly livestock and enhanced production to serve the economy and conserve the biodiversity like precison livestock farming, smart farming, real time monitoring using biosensors for eary diagnoses and prognosis of diseases, detection of feeding patterns, breeding patterns etc. The study shows that most farmers in the study have a higher level of education, which is a positive sign for the future of the industry. The study also suggests that regular trainings be organized for farmers to transfer the latest technology and practices in a timely manner.
