Abstract

Abstract

The energy or oil and gas industry is one of the largest contributing sources in Indonesia because of the high demand for oil and gas fuel. Still, it produces emissions and waste that have the potential to damage the surrounding environment. This research aims to analyze the identification of potential environmental impacts from the petroleum and natural gas industry in Sumatra using the life cycle assessment method so that it can provide recommendations for improvements in reducing environmental impacts in the petroleum and gas industry. This research uses the life cycle assessment (LCA) SNI ISO 14040:2016 concerning Life Cycle Assessment - Principles and Framework and SNI ISO 14044:2017 concerning Life Cycle Assessment - Requirements and Alloys using SIMAPRO Developer 9.4.0.2 software. The results are as follows: 1) The oil and gas industry has conducted a life cycle assessment study according to SNI ISO 14040:2016 and 14044:2017 standards, involving 100% of its petroleum products. 2) The data quality is adequate for life cycle impact assessment, with the data collected reaching 100% completeness. 3) The results of the environmental impact assessment cover 12 relevant impact categories, providing a comprehensive picture of the impacts produced by the oil and gas industry on the environment; 4) the main focus on essential issues can be directed at core processes or production within the scope of the oil and gas industry. 5) Efforts to improve the environment can be focused on the processing unit, which is an important issue, namely diesel-based generator emissions from the power plant process unit. 6) The sensitivity analysis results show that changes in emission values in the power plant process unit do not significantly affect the resulting potential impacts. Hence, this emission value is not sensitive based on the collection method. 7) Recommendations are given based on important issues that have been identified.

Abstract

Household organic waste has become an increasing problem in urban areas due to population growth and changing consumption patterns. Improperly managed organic waste may cause environmental and public health impacts. This community service program aimed to enhance the capacity of Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) Puspitasari in managing household organic waste through the cultivation of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae. The method applied a participatory approach consisting of training sessions, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and mentoring, evaluated using a pretest–posttest design. The results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge, with the mean score increasing from 61.47 to 83.24 and the Wilcoxon test showing p = 0.001. In addition to cognitive improvement, participants demonstrated practical competence and commitment to continue maggot cultivation independently. The findings confirm that BSF cultivation represents an innovative, sustainable, and economically promising solution for community-based organic waste management.

Abstract

Ruang Terbuka Hijau (RTH) or Green Open Space has an important role in maintaining the balance of urban ecosystems, improving environmental quality, and providing social interaction spaces for the community. The limited availability of Green Open Space in Jakarta, which only reaches 5.2% of the total area, is far below the national target of 30%, indicating the importance of Green Open Space as a vital element in creating a healthy and sustainable city. This condition also occurs in West Jakarta, which only has 0.45% of its area as green open space. One example of a developing public green space is Cattleya Park. This study aims to analyze the quality and quantity of facilities in Cattleya Park in supporting social and recreational activities, as well as to identify the challenges of its development as a sustainable public space. This research adopts a mixed-method design by integrating qualitative evidence from field observations and interviews with quantitative evidence gathered through Likert-scale questionnaires and a quantitative SWOT procedure. The results show that Cattleya Park has strengths in social, aesthetic, and recreational aspects, with a higher strength (S) score than weakness (W) score, namely 2.08:0.57 from the management side and 1.99:0.33 from the visitor side. External factors show that opportunities (O) are greater than threats (T), placing the park in quadrant I (growth/aggressive strategy). The main challenges include limited facilities, suboptimal drainage, and low community participation. With improved facilities, maintenance systems, and community involvement, Cattleya Park has the potential to become a sustainable and inclusive public space in West Jakarta.
