The modernization of traditional Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia has become an essential response to the challenges of contemporary education. Pesantren Modern Ar-Risalah Slahung Ponorogo stands as one of the institutions that successfully integrates classical Islamic education with modern learning systems, seeking to maintain a balance between religious and general knowledge. This study aims to analyze the modernization model applied in Pesantren Modern Ar-Risalah, particularly in the aspects of curriculum, teaching strategies, and institutional management. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through interviews with teachers and students, direct observations of learning activities, and documentation analysis. The results reveal that the modernization efforts are reflected in the integration of Islamic and general subjects, the adoption of student-centered learning methods, and the implementation of modern management principles. Such a model not only preserves pesantren traditions but also equips students with the necessary competencies to face global challenges. This research contributes to the broader discourse on pesantren modernization by offering insights into how traditional Islamic institutions can adapt to educational transformations while retaining their religious identity. Ultimately, the model developed at Pesantren Modern Ar-Risalah can serve as a reference for other Islamic boarding schools in implementing balanced and innovative educational reforms.
