Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of zakat in reducing socio-economic inequality in Muslim communities. Using a qualitative approach and secondary data analysis, this study explores the relationship between zakat management, social inequality (Gini index), and welfare improvement in several regions in Indonesia. The results show that larger zakat management, such as in Jakarta and Yogyakarta, contributes to a significant reduction in social inequality and a higher increase in welfare. In contrast, areas with smaller zakat management, such as Bandung, although showing an increase in welfare, still have relatively high social inequality. This study confirms that zakat can be an effective tool in reducing social inequality, but more efficient and transparent management is needed to maximize its impact. The results of this study provide recommendations for improving the zakat management system to be more efficient and inclusive.
