Abstract

The genocide in Gaza, Palestine, is often accompanied by propaganda that obscures the facts about human rights violations by Israel. This study aims to enhance Gen Z's media literacy so they can understand this tragedy from a moral perspective that upholds truth and justice. Through socialization activities, pre-test and post-test results show an improvement in students' understanding of the event. Additionally, this initiative encourages Gen Z to engage in humanitarian actions, such as fundraising and social activities, as a form of solidarity with the people of Gaza. Genosida di Gaza, Palestina, sering kali dipenuhi propaganda yang mengaburkan fakta pelanggaran hak asasi manusia oleh Israel. Penelitian ini bertujuan meningkatkan literasi media Gen Z agar mereka mampu memahami tragedi ini dengan perspektif moral yang berpihak pada kebenaran dan keadilan. Melalui kegiatan sosialisasi, hasil pre-test dan post-test menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman siswa tentang peristiwa tersebut. Selain itu, kegiatan ini mendorong Gen Z untuk terlibat dalam aksi kemanusiaan, seperti penggalangan dana dan kegiatan sosial, sebagai bentuk solidaritas terhadap masyarakat Gaza.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the construction of women’s beauty and how existentialist feminists observe the how-to-do feature on the beauty channel Fimela.com. This article utilizes social semiotics as explained by M.A.K Halliday. The beauty construction formed by Fimela.com refers to a healthy, clean, fresh body, shining eyes, smooth clean face, free of black spots and has small pores, glowing face, no eye bags and acne scars. Beauty can be obtained in three ways: naturally, through makeup, and through instant methods. In respect of existentialist feminism, women have not yet realized their right to be free and are still objects of patriarchy. Narcissism appears in features with many women considering physical beauty important to be recognized in the public sphere. Beauty care is very important for women. This is illustrated from the discourse field: discussing beauty tips and tricks, beauty steps achieved instantly and naturally through makeup. Involvement of discourse: resource persons with domestic or international credentials who have high credibility in their fields, are intelligent, and have positive inspiration for readers. Means of discourse: there are terms of cosmetology and medical terms using semi-formal language.

Abstract

This study examines environmental journalism in news photos in the online media Antarafoto.com. The ecological issue studied is the protection of wild animals, namely the Sumatran tiger in Aceh Province. The focus of the study is on environmental journalism, namely chronic points that provide information about the condition of the Sumatran tiger. Points of criticism and comments, namely a vehicle for education, raising awareness and providing solutions for the government and society. The research method used is Roland Barthes’ semiotics. The results of the analysis of news photos, namely denotations, describe the condition of the Sumatran tiger in the process of evacuating, caring for, and releasing it to its natural habitat. Connotation, showing six procedures: trick effect, pose, object, photogenic, aestheticism, and syntax. The selection of compositions, objects, and photo captions is essential to highlight in news photos so that they are easy to understand. The myth emphasizes the importance of the process of protecting the Sumatran tiger in Aceh. Antarafoto.com showcases environmental journalism by providing information on dealing with the problem of Sumatran tiger poaching. They appear in a news photo showing the Sumatran tiger evacuation process by Aceh Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) officers, the treatment process at the Conservation Response Unit in Naca Village, Trumon, Aceh, and the release process in the Leuser Ecosystem Area, Gayo Lues Regency, Aceh. Antarafoto.com has not presented environmental journalism that can provide solutions for the government and society in realizing the critical role of managing the environment in dealing with the endangered Sumatran tiger
