Abstract

The habit of praying in congregation is a method of character building. Generally, it is applied in Islamic educational institutions, such as Islamic boarding schools. The main goal is to shape the disciplined character of students. The research aims to determine the implementation of congregational prayer practices at the Nyai Sholchah Islamic boarding school; identify supporting and inhibiting factors for congregational prayer in Islamic boarding schools and at home; and analyzing the results of the habit of congregational prayer as the formation of the students' disciplined character. The research uses a qualitative approach. Data collection uses observation, interview and documentation techniques. Analysis techniques consist of data reduction, data display, and data verifying. The results of the research state that: 1) The system for implementing congregational prayer habits is carried out by preparing congregational prayer schedules, rules of conduct, SOP, and sanctions for violations. Deepening insight into prayer through recitation of Islamic studies, Islamic madrasas, and formal schools; 2) Supporting factors for congregational prayer in Islamic boarding schools; understanding the priority of congregational prayer, the value of religiosity, rules and sanctions as a means of supervision, example from caregivers and administrators. The inhibiting factor; lack of awareness among students, conflicts between congregational prayer schedules and other activity schedules, and preparation for congregational prayers which takes quite a lot of time. Supporting factors for getting into the habit of praying together at home; religious values, awareness of upholding obligatory and sunnah prayers, and family support to uphold the culture of congregational prayer. The inhibiting factor; The decreasing motivation of students, the influence of gadgets, and the lack of support from the family to uphold the culture of congregational prayer.
