Abstract

Critical reading skills, namely the ability to understand, analyze, and evaluate information in depth, are fundamental competencies in learning Indonesian. The low mastery of these skills is the background to the need for the implementation of effective learning models. This study focuses on the study of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning model integrated with the Close Reading Technique as an alternative to improve students' critical reading skills. An important stage in this approach is combining the teamwork structure of the CIRC model, which hones reading and writing skills in an integrated manner, with the in-depth analysis process of the Close Reading Technique. This technique encourages students to examine the text repeatedly to reveal the structure, choice of diction, and ideas contained therein. The results of the study show that the synergy between these two approaches creates a systematic and in-depth learning process. It is concluded that the application of the CIRC model with the Close Reading Technique is a strategic alternative that has been proven to be implemented effectively to significantly improve students' critical reading skills in learning Indonesian.
