Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem in children caused by long-term deficiency of animal protein intake. Semulut Village, Parittiga District, faces stunting problems that are approaching alarming levels. This research aims to develop innovations in processing catfish into abon as an effort to prevent stunting through the Real Work Lecture (KKN) program of Muhammadiyah University of Bangka Belitung. The implementation method was conducted in July-August 2025 through four stages: (1) observation and licensing, (2) trial and error in making catfish abon yielding 500 grams of abon from 2 kg of catfish, (3) socialization using the Participatory Action Learning System (PALS) method to posyandu mothers about stunting, catfish nutritional content, and abon production process, and (4) demonstration of catfish abon production practice. The results showed an increase in community knowledge about the importance of animal protein intake and balanced nutrition to prevent stunting. The community successfully mastered catfish cultivation techniques and catfish abon production that is practical, durable, and preferred by children. This program also provides new economic opportunities for the community through digital marketing strategies and MSMEs development. The innovation of processing catfish into abon proved to provide practical and nutritious solutions for preventing stunting. This program not only improves community skills in producing nutritious food independently but also opens new economic opportunities. It is hoped that this program can significantly reduce stunting rates in Semulut Village and become a model for other villages in addressing nutritional problems through simple yet beneficial innovations.
