Abstract

The quality of crude palm oil (CPO) is influenced by the quality of fresh fruit bunches, crop culture, and postharvest handling. A delay in fruit processing can cause physical damages to the fresh fruit bunches. Gibberellic acid (GA3) can potentially reduce the physical damage due to delayed processing of the fresh fruit bunches. Our study aims to determine how GA3 affects the physical and chemical quality of oil palm fresh fruit bunches. The fresh fruit bunch samples were collected from the IPB-Cargill Palm Oil Education and Research, Jonggol, Bogor, Indonesia. This study used a randomized complete block design that consisted of four concentrations of GA3: 0, 12.5, 25 and 37.5 ppm. GA3 application reduced fruit loss, respiration rate, and maintain fruit moisture and firmness, increased the oil content, and stabilize the free fatty acid content. GA3 concentration of 12.5 ppm is the optimal concentration. Based on the correlation analysis, fruit softness has a strong correlation with free fatty acids.

Abstract

Quality of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) is influenced by Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) quality including physical and chemical. The damage in the oil palm fruit causes increasing hydrolysis process so free fatty acid content increase and the oil content decrease. Damage is caused by the postharvest process of the fruit, such as the time to transport to the factory and delays in collecting the fruit. The delay for processing must be appropriate so that damage of FFB should be minimized using potassium permanganate (KMnO4). This study want to know the effect of KMnO4 on physical and chemical quality of oil palm fresh fruit bunches (FFB) and the relationship between the observed variables. The FFB samples were taken from the IPB-Cargill Palm oil Education and Research, Jonggol Bogor Indonesia. This study used a randomized block design (RBD). The experiment consisted of 4 concentration levels of KMnO4 (0 ppm, 250 ppm, 500 ppm and 750 ppm). The results showed that applying KMnO4 could maintain the physical quality of oil palm fruit on weight loss, fruit loss, respiration rate, and microbial content. The chemical quality is observed by fruit moisture content and free fatty acid content. KMnO4 concentration of 750 ppm is the best concentration. Based on the results of the correlation analysis, the direction of the relationship between the observed variables is positive. Variables that had a strong relationship were weight loss and fruit loss, weight loss and a number of microbes, weight loss and number of microbes, water content and number of microbes, as well as free fatty acids and number of microbes.

Abstract

Tanaman caisim salah satu sayur yang banyak disukai oleh masyarakat. Hidroponik dapat menjadi salah satu alternatif untuk budidaya caisim yang lebih efektif dan efisien. Hidroponik membutuhkan nutrisi AB Mix sebagai sumber unsur hara bagi tanaman. Nutrisi AB Mix yang tersedia memiliki harga relatif tinggi, perlu adanya alternatif lain yaitu POC rebung bambu untuk mengurangi pemberian nutrisi AB Mix dan tetap tersedia unsur hara bagi tanaman. Tujuan penelitian yaitu mengetahui pengaruh pemberian pupuk organik cair rebung bambu terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman caisim hidroponik. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Oktober hingga bulan Desember tahun 2023, dilaksanakan di Instalasi Hidroponik Kampus Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Payakumbuh. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan 5 perlakuan dan 4 ulangan serentak. Populasi sebanyak 180 tanaman dan sampel sebanyak 80 tanaman dengan menggunakan jenis instalasi Nutrient Film Technique (NFT). Analisis data menggunakan Uji Anova dilanjutkan dengan Uji Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) 5% dengan menggunakan software SPSS 20. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemberian POC rebung bambu dan AB Mix terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi caisim hidroponik berbeda nyata terhadap parameter lebar daun, panjang daun, tinggi tanaman, diameter batang, panjang akar dan hasil produksi, tetapi tidak berbeda nyata pada parameter jumlah daun. Perlakuan dengan nilai terbaik dengan pemberian POC yaitu POC rebung bambu 75 ml + AB Mix 50%, walaupun hasilnya belum bisa sebaik perlakuan kontrol.
