Abstract

The background of the research is the problem of waste which is increasing every day, especially plastic waste because plastic waste is waste that requires a long time to be decomposed. As a solutive step the tangerang district government issued a policy by making our school waste reduction program (KURASAKI). This study uses qualitative research with a case study approach. In the implementation of the KURASAKI program there are a number of habits that are applied by this regulation such as always bringing food and drink from home, training in the use of plastic waste through ecobricks, conducted by all citizens of the school and planting hydroponic plants. In answering the formulation about the implications of the KURASAKI program the researcher used an observation sheet whose respondents were Grade V students who were the subjects of the study. The results showed that through the Kurasaki program, the concern of fifth grade students on the environment increased. This is evidenced from the results of the questionnaire given to students as follows: "Always" at 56.25%. To get an average of "Frequent" of 32.25%, "Rarely" of 11% and "Never" of 0.5%. With regard to these results, the program to reduce our school waste can improve the environmental character of students with the category Always. It is hoped that this research can serve as a recommendation for elementary schools in solving waste problems in their schools and also in fostering environmental attitudes towards their students.
