Abstract

This study aims to measure the effect of problem-based learning models with a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) approach on students' problem-solving abilities in geography. The study used a quasi-experimental method with a quantitative approach. The research subjects consisted of two classes, namely a control class of 36 students and an experimental class of 34 students. The posttest results showed that the average score for the control class was 65.14, while that for the experimental class was 74.41. N-Gain analysis showed that the control class obtained an average score of 29.88 (low category), while the experimental class obtained an average score of 38.52 (medium category). These results indicate an increase in students' problem-solving skills after the implementation of the problem-based learning model with a STEM approach. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the problem-based learning model with a STEM approach has a positive effect on improving the problem-solving skills of Grade X Phase E students at SMA Negeri 1 Pariangan.
