Abstract

The concept of a lifelong learning society has become an essential demand in responding to the dynamics of social, cultural, and technological changes in the modern era. However, the implementation of lifelong learning within Islamic education still faces various challenges, such as an education paradigm that tends to be formalistic, limited pedagogical innovation, and the suboptimal role of Islamic educational institutions in fostering a culture of continuous learning. This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic education in building a lifelong learning society through a conceptual review and the values of Islamic education. This research employs a qualitative approach with a library research design. Data were collected through an extensive review of literature, including books, journal articles, and academic documents relevant to Islamic education and lifelong learning, and were analyzed using content analysis techniques. The findings indicate that Islamic education possesses strong philosophical foundations and values that support lifelong learning, such as the concept of learning as an act of worship, the balance between knowledge, morality, and practice, and the internalization of values such as tawhid (monotheism), sincerity, trustworthiness, and ijtihad (intellectual endeavor). Islamic educational institutions, including pesantren, madrasah, and Islamic higher education institutions, play a strategic role as centers of formal and non-formal learning within society. The implications of this study emphasize the need to strengthen policies, promote pedagogical innovation, and utilize technology grounded in Islamic values in order to optimize the role of Islamic education in building a lifelong learning society.

Abstract

The main problem in today’s education is the weakening of students’ religious character due to globalization, digitalization, and moral degradation that diminish spiritual values in daily life. This study aims to analyze the Islamic spirituality approach as a strategy for developing students’ religious character by strengthening inner values, deepening worship practices, and internalizing moral conduct. The method used is library research by reviewing various literature related to Islamic spirituality, Islamic education, religious character formation, and spiritually grounded pedagogical approaches. The findings reveal that the Islamic spirituality approach can enhance students’ religious character through habitual worship, spiritual reflection, reinforcement of school culture, and teacher role-modeling as moral figures. The implications of this study emphasize that integrating Islamic spirituality into the school education system can serve as an effective strategy to overcome moral challenges, improve emotional balance, and build a strong religious identity among students.

Abstract

The main issue highlighted in this study is the suboptimal management and implementation of extracurricular activities in schools, resulting in the underutilization of their potential to develop students' soft skills. This study investigates the role of extracurricular activities in developing students’ soft skills, which are increasingly recognized as essential competencies for success in the 21st century. Grounded in the understanding that formal education often emphasizes cognitive learning while overlooking interpersonal and intrapersonal competencies, this research explores how extracurricular programs provide meaningful opportunities for holistic development. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving teachers, students, and school administrators. The analysis employed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, covering data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal three major insights: first, extracurricular activities act as dynamic platforms for cultivating soft skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, creativity, and resilience. Second, the implementation of these programs faces significant challenges, including limited resources, imbalanced participation, lack of professional training for facilitators, and time management constraints. Third, the success of extracurricular activities is strongly influenced by the active involvement of schools, teachers, parents, and communities, highlighting the importance of collaboration and strategic integration with real-life social issues. In conclusion, extracurricular activities are not merely complementary but serve as transformative tools for preparing students to face complex demands in academic, professional, and societal domains. The study recommends strengthening institutional support, enhancing teachers’ capacity, and fostering school–community partnerships to maximize the impact of extracurricular activities. By doing so, schools can ensure that students emerge as competent, empathetic, and future-ready individuals.
