Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Yanbu’a method in improving the quality of Qur’anic reading among female students at Darun Najah Islamic Boarding School, Lumajang. As one of the structured and progressive Qur’anic learning systems, the Yanbu’a method emphasizes mastery of makhārij al-ḥurūf, fluency, tajwīd application, and repetitive practice. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, this study explores the experiences, perceptions, and learning dynamics between instructors and students through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. The findings reveal that the implementation of Yanbu’a significantly enhances students’ reading quality in three main aspects: tartīl, faṣāḥah, and tajwīd mastery. The study also identifies supporting factors such as disciplined learning schedules, instructor competency, and strong institutional commitment, as well as inhibiting factors related to students’ heterogenous backgrounds and learning motivation. This research contributes to Qur’anic pedagogy by presenting a comprehensive model of Yanbu’a implementation and offering practical recommendations for developing effective Qur’anic literacy programs in traditional female Islamic boarding schools
