Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of tourism on community economic growth and its implications for environmental sustainability by employing a qualitative literature study through the review of journals, research reports, and relevant official documents. The findings indicate that tourism makes a significant contribution to the local economy through job creation, increased household income, the strengthening of MSMEs, and its crucial role in enhancing Regional Original Revenue (PAD). However, the growth of tourism also poses negative risks, such as pollution, ecosystem degradation, and the decline of natural resources if not managed sustainably. Therefore, the implementation of sustainable tourism and community-based tourism concepts offers a viable solution to balance economic benefits with environmental preservation, allowing the tourism sector to develop as an instrument of sustainable development that improves community welfare while safeguarding nature and local culture.

Abstract

Economic growth in a region is generally driven by increased industrial activity, but this is often accompanied by pressure on environmental quality. This study aims to analyse the relationship between industrial economic growth and environmental quality in Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan. The method used is a descriptive quantitative approach using secondary data in the form of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) for the industrial sector and environmental indicators (water quality, air quality, and land cover) from relevant institutions for the period 2015–2024. The results of the analysis show that the contribution of the industrial sector to GRDP increased by an average of 4.3% per year, in line with the increase in the number of manufacturing industries in the study area. This increase was accompanied by a decline in the water quality of the Martapura River, high particulate emissions in industrial areas, and reduced land cover due to conversion. Nevertheless, environmental control policies through the implementation of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), waste monitoring, and the promotion of green industry began to play a role in slowing the rate of environmental degradation. These findings support the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis, which explains that environmental degradation occurs in the early stages of industrialisation, but in the subsequent phase, environmental quality can be restored as awareness increases and sustainable policies are implemented. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a positive relationship between industrial growth and environmental degradation in Banjar Regency, although this can still be controlled through sustainable development strategies.

Abstract

Oil palm plantations are a leading sector in the economy of Tanah Laut Regency, South Kalimantan. However, despite their contribution to regional income and community welfare, these activities also cause environmental problems such as deforestation, land degradation, and water pollution. This study aims to analyze the role of environmental economics in supporting sustainable oil palm plantation management in Tanah Laut Regency. The research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection through literature studies, field observations, and interviews with stakeholders. The results show that the application of environmental economic principles, such as the economic valuation of natural resources, environmental incentive policies, and sustainable plantation practices, can provide long-term economic benefits while maintaining ecosystem sustainability. This study emphasizes the importance of collaboration between the government, companies, and communities in implementing environmental economic principles to achieve a balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability

Abstract

Sustainable tourism has become an essential approach in Indonesia to balance economic growth with environmental and cultural conservation. This model focuses on fostering local economies by empowering communities, creating jobs, and stimulating community-led small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Simultaneously, it ensures environmental protection through responsible resource management practices and cultural preservation by promoting authentic interactions and respect for local traditions. Various case studies in Indonesia, such as Pujon Kidul Tourism Village in Malang and Penglipuran Village in Bali, demonstrate that tourism can be a positive force that drives prosperity without sacrificing ecological and social integrity. This approach proves that sustainability is not just an ideal, but also an effective strategy for building a resilient and long-term beneficial tourism sector.

Abstract

Clean water is an important factor in supporting the success of agricultural businesses. This study aims to analyze the effect of clean water availability on agricultural productivity using the library research method. Data were obtained from journals, books, research reports, and relevant official documents. The results of the study show that sufficient water availability has a positive effect on crop productivity, while water shortages cause a 30% decline in crop yields. In addition to quantity, water quality also plays an important role; high salinity has been shown to inhibit growth and reduce soil fertility. Climate variability, particularly the El Niño phenomenon, exacerbates drought conditions and results in delayed planting seasons, reduced farmer income, and risks to food security. Therefore, water resource management through improved irrigation infrastructure, the use of water-saving technologies, and environmental conservation are strategic steps to maintain agricultural productivity while supporting farmer welfare.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze economic feasibility and assess the impact of flooding on communities in Pati Regency, an area with a high level of vulnerability to hydrometeorological disasters. The approach used is a descriptive-analytical method with Benefit-Cost Ratio (B/C), Net Present Value (NPV), and Social Return on Investment (SROI) calculations based on secondary data from government agencies and the results of socio-economic surveys of the affected communities. The results of the study show a B/C value of 1.21, a positive NPV of IDR 17.8 billion, and an SROI of 1.6, which means that every IDR 1 of public investment in flood control generates social benefits worth IDR 1.60. The analysis shows that flood mitigation efforts through the construction of embankments, drainage improvements, and community education are economically and socially feasible. These results emphasize the importance of an environmental economic approach in disaster risk management in flood-prone areas such as Pati Regency.

Abstract

Land feasibility studies play a crucial role in ensuring the sustainable utilization of natural resources from both economic and environmental perspectives. This study aims to analyze internal feasibility, external feasibility, and land suitability within the framework of environmental economics. The method employed is a literature review, focusing on previous studies related to land evaluation, economic feasibility, and the environmental impacts of land use. The findings indicate that internal feasibility emphasizes efficiency in land utilization and long-term economic benefits, while external feasibility highlights social, regulatory, and ecological aspects. Meanwhile, land suitability analysis demonstrates the importance of aligning biophysical conditions with planned land use to minimize degradation and optimize productivity. Integrating these three aspects provides a comprehensive framework for sustainable development that balances economic value with environmental quality and community welfare. In conclusion, internal and external feasibility assessments, combined with land suitability analysis, serve as strategic instruments for guiding environmentally sound planning and policy-making.
