Abstract

Abstract

Teachers are managers or administrators who play a role in creating a conducive classroom for students. Early childhood education (PAUD) is a crucial early stage in forming the foundation for children's intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual development. The purpose of this study was to determine the strategies teachers employ in managing the classroom at the Generasi Ungul Christian Kindergarten in Bajawa. The method used in this study was a descriptive qualitative research method. The subjects were teachers at the Generasi Ungul Christian Kindergarten in Bajawa. The results showed that teachers' strategies in managing the classroom at the Generasi Ungul Christian Kindergarten in Bajawa include creating a safe classroom environment free of objects that could harm children. They also established simple and positive classroom rules, such as neatness, raising their hands before speaking, sharing, and involving children in creating rules to foster a sense of ownership. These strategies are considered effective in creating a safe and comfortable learning environment that supports the social and emotional development of early childhood.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of family parenting styles in enhancing the literacy skills of children aged 6–8 during the transition from Early Childhood Education to elementary school. This transitional phase is critical as children move from learning to read toward reading to learn, which requires more advanced literacy competencies. Employing a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, this study explores parents’ lived experiences in supporting children’s reading and writing development within the home context. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation of family literacy activities, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate that democratic parenting styles play a significant role in fostering children’s intrinsic motivation and independence in literacy activities. Intensive verbal interactions, such as dialogic reading and post-reading discussions, were found to enhance children’s comprehension, narrative skills, and expressive language. In addition, guided use of digital media with active parental mediation supports the development of multimodal literacy when integrated purposefully. Supporting factors identified include consistent home reading routines and strong parental emotional involvement. Conversely, limited parental time and the lack of contextual and age-appropriate reading materials emerged as major barriers to effective family literacy practices. The study concludes that family parenting is a key factor in bridging literacy gaps during the transition from PAUD to elementary school. These findings imply the need for a family literacy model that integrates democratic parenting, rich verbal interaction, and guided digital literacy to support children’s literacy development during this critical transition phase.

Abstract

Early childhood literacy skills at TKK Generasi Unggul are still low due to the lack of varied and interactive learning media. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the mobile-based parenting application "Nalo," which is integrated with the local Ngada culture, on children's literacy skills. This quantitative research used a Pre-Experimental design (One Group Pretest-Posttest) involving 17 children aged 5-6 years. The instrument used was literacy skills observation, which has been validated. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The study results showed a significant increase in average literacy scores from 10.82 (pretest) to 14.71 (posttest). Statistical test results showed t(16) = −8.056  with p < 0.001, and a very large effect size. The conclusion is that the "Nalo" application is effective in improving children's literacy through aspects of letter recognition, arranging letters, and reading words
