Abstract

This study aims to determine the comparison of the effectiveness of Ranibizumab and Brolucizumab injection for diabetic retinopathy patients and its review in Islamic views. The results of this study showed that there were 20 patients with diabetic retinopathy in Puri Cinere Hospital. Patients with diabetic retinopathy who used Ranibizumab were 8 people (40%) while those who used Brolucizumab were 12 people (60%). Of the total 20 patients who used these two drugs, 13 patients experienced improvement, while 7 others showed no improvement. Patients with diabetic retinopathy mostly used Brolucizumab therapy (56%) compared to Ranibizumab (43%). According to Islam, the description of diabetic retinopathy is a research activity for the development of science in the field of medicine. Patients with diabetic retinopathy should maintain a healthy lifestyle and seek treatment with halal medicine.

Abstract

Graves’ ophthalmopathy (GO), also known as thyroid eye disease, is the most common extrathyroidal autoimmune manifestation of Graves’ disease, significantly affecting visual function and patients’ quality of life. It is characterized by progressive inflammation of the extraocular muscles, orbital fat, and connective tissue, leading to proptosis, diplopia, and optic neuropathy. The pathogenesis of GO involves complex interactions among genetic, immunologic, and environmental factors, with antibodies against the thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR-Ab) and insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R) as major triggers. Diagnosis is based on clinical evaluation, thyroid function testing, and imaging such as MRI or CT scans. Management includes thyroid function control, systemic glucocorticoids, immunosuppressive therapy, radiotherapy, and orbital decompression surgery in severe cases. The prognosis varies depending on early detection, disease severity, and treatment response. Preventive strategies include smoking cessation, maintaining euthyroid status, and early detection using inflammatory biomarkers and advanced imaging technologies.

Abstract

Myopia is one of the most common refractive disorders among children and is a leading cause of visual impairment worldwide. The increasing use of digital devices among children has raised concerns about its impact on myopia progression. This study aims to analyze the relationship between device-use duration and viewing distance with myopia progression in children at Puri Cinere Hospital and to examine these findings from an Islamic perspective. This quantitative cross-sectional study included 37 children aged 5–17 years diagnosed with myopia and possessing complete medical records for 2024–2025. Data were collected through medical records and questionnaires assessing device-use habits. Bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test revealed a significant relationship between device-use duration and myopia progression (p = 0.020), as well as between viewing distance and myopia progression (p = 0.002). Children who used digital devices for more than four hours per day and at distances below 50 cm were at higher risk of experiencing myopia progression. From an Islamic viewpoint, maintaining eye health is an obligation, as emphasized in Surah Yunus verse 44, which warns against self-harm caused by harmful habits. This study highlights the importance of visual ergonomics education, parental supervision of device use, and increased outdoor activities to help prevent myopia progression in children.
