Abstract

This research aims to explain the process of the typological transformation of the Stone Court tradition into a cultural icon in Huta Siallagan. The study employs a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. The informants were determined using the snowball sampling technique, involving tourism managers, tour guides, local community members, and local vendors. Data were collected through field observations, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques consisted of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the Stone Court Tradition has undergone a typological transformation process into a tourism icon. Period I: The Era of Traditional Function (13th Century – Early 20th Century). Period II: The Era of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (Late 20th Century – Present). Thus, the Stone Court not only serves as a historical heritage of the Batak Toba people, but has also transformed into a cultural tourism icon that provides educational, social, and economic value for the community of Huta Siallagan.
