Abstract

This study explores adolescents' speech and language dynamics in the context of online gaming from a psycholinguistic perspective. Linguistic variation in this digital space is viewed as a unique reflection of cognitive processes, language production, and social affiliations. The primary objective is to analyze how adolescents construct, process, and use non-standard language, slang, and code-switching and code-mixing patterns for effective communication and the construction of group identity in a fast-paced gaming environment. The case study method used was a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were obtained from participant observation of game interactions and in-depth interviews with adolescent participants (aged 15–20 years). Data were transcribed and analyzed using a social psycholinguistic framework, focusing on aspects of language production and comprehension (language processing), as well as lexical variation. The results show that adolescent speech is dominated by extreme lexical creativity, including novel slang, acronyms, and game-specific lexis. This phenomenon serves as a marker of cognitive processing speed and social boundaries. Code-switching and code-mixing patterns, especially between Indonesian and English, frequently occur for time efficiency and emotional expression. Psycholinguistic, these dynamics reflect high linguistic flexibility and rapid cognitive adaptation to real-time communication. The study concludes that the online gaming world plays a vital role as a language incubation arena, providing in-depth insights into the mechanisms of adolescent language adaptation in the evolution of digital communication.

Abstract

The development of social media has transformed the ways in which young generations form and use language in digital spaces. Platform X represents one example of this dynamic, as it demonstrates diserve, creative, and context-sensitive language practices. This study aims to describe the forms of slang language variations used by Gen Z on platform X and to explain the factors that encourage the emergence of these slang variations as trends from digital sosiolinguistic perspective. The research employes as a descriptive qualitative method with a netnographic approach. The data sources consist of post and interactions by Gen Z users on platform X that contain slang expression. Data collections techniques include social media observation and documentation. The findings reveal that slang language variations used by Gen Z on platform X involve the creation of new terms. The variations are influenced by several factors, including social identity, linguistic creativity, and the distinctive characteristics of digital communication. The findings indicate that slang language on platform X functions not only as a communication tool but also as a means expressing identity and reinforcing social membership among Gen Z.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the patterns of morphological errors in the written language of a ninth-grade student at SMPN 4 Tarogong Kidul who is indicated to experience dysgraphia from a psycholinguistic perspective. The study was motivated by the observed discrepancy between the student's oral and written language abilities. Although the student demonstrates coherent and communicative oral expression, consistent and recurring morphological errors appear in written production. A descriptive qualitative approach with a single case study design was employed. Data were collected from the student's written works, including worksheets, class notes, and essay assignments, and were supported by classroom observation and interviews with the teacher and the student. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that morphological errors are the most dominant type, including phoneme omission, grapheme substitution, distortion of derived words, affixation errors (meN-, peN-, -an, kan), and inconsistency in complex word formation. These errors appear systematically and repeatedly across different writing tasks. From a psycholinguistic perspective, the errors indicate disruption at the translating stage of Hayes and Flower's writing process model, where linguistic ideas are converted into graphemic symbols. The student tends to rely more on the phonological route than on stable orthographic representations in the mental lexicon, suggesting weak morphological awareness and limitations in working memory capacity. The results suggest that the observed errors are not merely carelessness but reflect cognitive constraints in written language processing. This study contributes to applied psycholinguistic research and provides pedagogical implications for developing adaptive and inclusive writing instruction at the junior secondary level. Keywords: dysgraphia, morphological errors, psycholinguistics, writing process, affixation.
