Abstract

Abstract

This study examines Unilever’s strategic responses to global political economy dynamics during the 2023-2025 period by positioning multinational corporations as non-state actors that interact directly with state policies and national interests. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach, drawing on secondary data sources including official corporate reports, state policy documents, and scholarly literature on international political economy. The findings indicate that geopolitical fragmentation, the strengthening of national policy frameworks, and the politicization of energy, food security, and labor issues have collectively shaped the strategic environment influencing Unilever’s decision-making processes. In response, the company has implemented supply chain diversification, reinforced local production capacities, ensured compliance with national regulations, and strategically managed its relationships with government institutions. The study further reveals that Unilever does not merely adapt to state policies but also contributes to shaping global governance practices and international standards. These findings underscore the necessity of employing a political economy approach to analyze multinational corporate strategies in order to comprehensively understand power relations, national interests, and evolving global dynamics.

Abstract

This study discusses PT Indofood's strategy in expanding its market penetration in Nigeria during 2024-2025, emphasizing the influence of the country's political structure and regulations on the dynamics of corporate expansion. Nigeria is a potential market with a large population, but political instability, fluctuations in import policies, and government intervention in the food sector create significant obstacles for multinational companies. The research uses a qualitative-descriptive approach through a single case study of Indofood and its joint venture, Dufil Prima Foods, utilizing secondary data from official reports, academic publications, and credible business reports to strengthen the validity of the findings. The results of the discussion show that fluctuating political stability and exchange rate liberalization policies affect Indofood's production costs, supply chain strategies, and marketing adaptation patterns. The company applies its advantages as an EMNC through cost efficiency, localization of raw materials, and value chain resilience to respond to political and economic risks. This study confirms that Indofood's success in Nigeria is highly dependent on its ability to read political dynamics and design adaptive strategies to changes in state policy.

Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of Apple Inc. as a transnational corporation on the competitiveness and development of local products produced by Advan in Indonesia through the lens of interdependence theory. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach based on secondary data, this research examines how global corporate dominance shapes local industrial dynamics. The findings indicate that Apple’s strong market position, supported by brand globalness, technological innovation, and integration into global value chains, generates competitive pressure on local producers. However, this pressure does not solely result in marginalization. Instead, it stimulates adaptive strategies among local firms, including product differentiation, price adjustments, and alignment with domestic consumer preferences. The study also highlights the strategic role of the Indonesian government in mediating global–local relations through industrial and regulatory policies such as the Local Content Requirement. Within the interdependence framework, the relationship between Apple and Advan reflects a complex interaction of competition and mutual reliance, where global firms depend on emerging markets while local industries leverage global standards as benchmarks for upgrading. This dynamic underscores the potential of transnational corporate presence to contribute to domestic industrial transformation when supported by coherent national policies.
