Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by an increase in blood sugar levels known as hyperglycemia. Diabetes mellitus is caused by a decrease in insulin production due to dysfunction of ? cells in the pancreas, resulting in a decrease in insulin response in the body. Pharmacists are pharmaceutical staff who have a role in monitoring DM Type II patients by providing education and counseling to Type II DM patients. The purpose of this study was to see the effect of pharmacist counseling on the KGD and HbA1C values for Type II DM patients outpatient at the Asahan General Hospital. The research method used was a cohort study before and after the intervention by looking at the patient's KGD and HbA1C values. Research using the DKQ-24 questionnaire on the research sample of Type II DM patients The results showed that there were differences when Type II DM patients received pharmacist counseling interventions and before receiving counseling interventions. Changes occurred with a decrease in KGD and HbAi1 values in Type II DM patients after routine counseling from a pharmacist.
