Abstract

Anxiety in completing a final thesis is a common issue experienced by final-year students, which can affect academic performance, mental health, and even delay graduation. This condition highlights the importance of effective strategies to manage psychological pressure appropriately. This study aims to explore the application of spiritual coping in helping students reduce anxiety during the thesis writing process. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The participants consisted of three students selected from a total of thirteen who had been identified with severe anxiety. The instruments used were the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale as an initial assessment, followed by in-depth interviews and observations to explore their experiences, coping strategies, and psychological dynamics. Data were analyzed thematically by focusing on the personal, social, environmental, and religious domains in the practice of spiritual coping. The findings indicate that spiritual coping assists students in managing emotions, discovering life meaning, and maintaining academic commitment. Religious practices, prayer, spiritual reflection, and social support proved effective in fostering inner peace and alleviating anxiety symptoms. In conclusion, spiritual coping can serve as an effective strategy to support students in facing academic pressures and in enhancing psychological well-being.

Abstract

Objective of this research is to understand the relationship between self­concept and self-injury behavior among adolescents. Adolescents with positive self­concept were able to maintain their emotion when they received critics. Therefore they would be less likely to do self-injury. Adolescents with negative self-concept, on the other hand, were unable to maintain their emotion when they received critics. Therefore they would be more likely to do self-injury. Eighty eight students aged 16­18 years old participated in this study. In order to measure adolescent's self concept, the Self-concept Scale was used. Range of the Self-concept Scale discrimination index was about .367-.643, and the reliability coefficient was .772. The Self-injury Scale was also used to measure the dependent variable. Range of the discrimination index of the Self-injury Scale was about .236- 631, and the reliability coefficient was .792. The hypothesis examination revealed rxy- -.484, p = .000 (p <.01). There was negative relationship between self-concept and self-injury behavior. The effective contribution of the independent variable in predicting the dependent variable was about 23.4%. It was about 76.6% variables out side this research would be likely to predict the dependent variable. The self-report method on describing the self-injury behavior was likely to be the phmary reason for middle level of the effective contribution. Respondent’s answer might not be accurate.

Abstract

Objective of this research is to explain the relationship between couple’s marriage happiness and assertive communication skill. This assertive communication skill actually will direct people to communicate honestly without aggressively.This kind of social interaction will be occurred when those couples have matured emotional level. Matured emotional level will make people enjoy to each other, devoid of insulting, and becoming comfortable. Seventy four people participated in this research. Relationship of those two variables revealed that couple's assertive communication skill influenced their marriage happiness (rxy = .457, p = .0000 or p<.001). This influence was about 20.9 percent.

Abstract

Objective of this research is to find the influence of anxiety on personal adjustment among elderly. Elderly with high level of anxiety about their present and future well being had difficult experience in their personal adjustment. It was hypothesized that there would be a negative relationship between anxiety and personal adjustment among elderly. The more they felt anxiously, their personal adjustment would be worse. On the other hand, the less they felt anxiously, their personal adjustment would be better. There were 70 elderly aged 56+ participated in this research. They were from Karangwaru Yogyakarta. Two instruments were used i.e. Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale (T-MAS) and the Personal Adjustment Scale. The product moment correlation statistical analysis revealed that ncy • -.647, p<.000. It meant that the anxiety variable influenced significantly the personal adjustment among elderly. That influence was about 41.8%. It was a warned influence. It was recommended that the Karangwaru local government should provide a convenient place for those elderiy to communicate to each other pleasantly and to consult their physical-psychological-social problems toward some professionals i.e. physician, nutritionist, and psychologist.

Abstract

Ninety nine students grade 11 participated on this study in order to understand the relationship between emotional intelligence, cognitive intelligence, and student’s school performance. The former two variables were the independent variable whilst die third was the dependent variable. This study revealed that there was no relationship emotional intelligence and school performance although student's cognitive intelligence was controlled. It was found that there was no relationship between student's cognitive intelligence and school performance although the emotional intelligence was controlled. The last result showed that there was no relationship among those three variables. According Bloom, school performance was more likely influenced by the question type of the school exam rather than the emotional and cognitive intelligences.
