Abstract

This article aims to explore the integration of Imre Lakatos' Scientific Research Programmes (SRP) methodology in hadith studies as a response to the stagnant normative tendencies in the face of contemporary socio-cultural dynamics. This study uses a qualitative approach through a literature study method by analyzing works on the philosophy of science, Islamic studies methodology, and contemporary literature. In this framework, revelation is placed as an unshakable hard core, while religious interpretations such as tafsir and syarah are associated with a modifiable protective belt. This study shows that Lakatos' approach not only provides a strong epistemological framework to maintain Islamic normative principles, but also encourages the birth of new theories (series of theories) that are contextual, critical, and progressive. Imre Lakatos's model of renewal at least opens up space for the development of hadith studies that are more dynamic and relevant to the challenges of the times, and bridges the authority of the text with the need for recontextualization of meaning in contemporary Islamic education and thought. Thus, the integration of Lakatos' approach contributes to the renewal of reflective and sustainable Islamic science.
