Abstract

This study examined whether the singing method could improve language development through letter recognition activities for children aged 5-6 years at Nurul Iman Kindergarten, Tonu Jaya Village, Huamual Belakang District, West Seram Regency. The research employed classroom action research methodology conducted over two cycles, with each cycle comprising planning, implementation, observation, and reflection phases. The study involved 31 children (20 boys and 11 girls) from Nurul Iman Kindergarten. Results indicated significant improvement in language development through letter recognition activities using the singing method. In the first cycle, children's language abilities were categorized as follows: 10 children (32.2%) not yet developed (BB), 5 children (16.1%) beginning to develop (MB), 7 children (22.5%) developing as expected (BSH), and 9 children (29.03%) very well developed (BSB). By the second cycle, improvement was evident with 7 children (22.5%) beginning to develop (MB), 9 children (29.03%) developing as expected (BSH), and 15 children (48.38%) very well developed (BSB). The findings demonstrate that the singing method effectively enhanced language development in letter recognition activities, with a notable increase in children achieving very good development from 29.03% to 48.38%. This research concluded that the singing method is an effective approach for improving language development through letter recognition activities for children aged 5-6 years.

Abstract

This study addresses the low development of fine motor skills among 5–6-year-old children at TK Tabitha 1 Benteng, Ambon City, characterized by poor hand–eye coordination, difficulty grasping pencils, and limited dexterity during coloring activities due to insufficient stimulation and monotonous learning methods. The research aimed to improve children's fine motor skills through coloring activities using colored sand. Employing a classroom action research design based on Kurt Lewin's model, the study was conducted over two cycles comprising four meetings with 13 children as subjects. Data were collected through observation sheets and documentation, then analyzed descriptively. Results showed significant improvement: in the pre-cycle, 61.53% of children were categorized as "belum berkembang" (not yet developed); after Cycle I, 53.84% remained in this category; and by Cycle II, 0% were in the lowest category while 76.92% achieved "berkembang sangat baik" (very well developed). Indicators such as hand movement control, shape imitation, media exploration, and speed regulation improved markedly. The findings confirm that colored sand coloring activities effectively enhance fine motor skills in early childhood.

Abstract

This study addresses the low cognitive abilities of Kelompok B children at TK Nurul Iman in understanding number symbols, sequencing numbers, and matching quantities to corresponding symbols. The problem stems from limited learning media and an overreliance on verbal instruction, which reduces children’s engagement and focus. The research aims to determine whether the use of number block media can enhance the cognitive development of these children. Employing a Classroom Action Research design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, the study was conducted in two cycles, each comprising planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 25 children aged 5–6 years. Data were collected through systematic observation and documentation, then analyzed using percentage techniques to assess developmental indicators. The results revealed a significant improvement across both cycles. In Cycle I, 48% of the children remained in the “Not Yet Developed” category, indicating persistent difficulties in number recognition and problem-solving. After implementing targeted improvements in Cycle II, such as clearer demonstrations, structured group activities, and step-by-step practice, the outcomes shifted dramatically: 0% remained in the “Not Yet Developed” category, 8% were “Beginning to Develop,” 16% “Developed as Expected,” and 76% reached “Very Well Developed.” These findings demonstrate that number block media effectively stimulate logical thinking, number symbol recognition, and independent problem-solving in early childhood. Consequently, the integration of concrete, manipulative media like number blocks is highly recommended for optimizing cognitive development in early childhood education settings.
