Abstract

The United States' (US) withdrawal from the Paris Agreement in 2017 had a significant impact on global climate policy and international diplomacy. This decision surprised many, considering the importance of the international accord in the global effort to address climate change. This study aims to analyze the impact of the US withdrawal and the response of other countries to these changes, as well as examine its influence on global environmental political stability. This research employed a qualitative method with a case study approach of President Donald Trump's 2017 decision and a literature review to gain a deeper understanding of the phenomenon. The decision worsened tensions between the US and major countries such as the European Union (EU) and China, while also eroding trust in the US's role in multilateral diplomacy. Nevertheless, the findings show that other countries, such as the EU and China, strengthened their commitments to carbon emission reductions and renewable energy, and even developing countries focused on domestic climate policies. This indicates that other countries remain committed to more ambitious climate policies, leading to the emergence of a more decentralized global governance pattern
