Abstract

This study aims to develop AI-based learning media integrated with Yogyakarta's local wisdom, particularly gudeg, in physics education. The research aims to facilitate 21st-century skills and students’ physics identity in the 5.0 era through socially and culturally relevant media. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with a 4D model, including define, design, and development stages. Observations and interviews were conducted at two high schools in Yogyakarta to identify learning needs. We developed three AI-based learning products: an e-book, an e-module, and an e-worksheet. Expert feasibility assessment showed very feasible results, with the e-book achieving the highest score (2.15), followed by the e-worksheet (2.05) and e-module (2.00). The use of these media increased students' interest, understanding, and skills in critical thinking, creativity, and physics identity. Integrating technology and local wisdom in physics learning media also positively contributes to education quality and supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals).

Abstract

This study aims to identify physics concepts in the moke refining process practiced by the community of Ja Mokeasa Village, Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. Moke is a traditional beverage made from enau tree sap and holds important social and cultural value. This research employed a qualitative descriptive ethnoscience approach. Data were collected through two direct observations of the distillation process and in-depth interviews with two moke artisans, each lasting approximately 45–60 minutes. Data credibility was ensured through source and method triangulation by comparing observations, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data collection, reduction, presentation, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal several physics concepts in the distillation process, such as temperature and heat, changes in states of matter, heat transfer mechanisms, and pressure relationships. The moke distillation process has the potential to be used as a contextual learning resource in science or physics education by integrating local wisdom with scientific concepts.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential in 21st-century education. However, physics learning in schools still relies on conventional teaching materials and limited instructional approaches, resulting in students' low critical thinking skills. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a Problem-Based Learning (PBL)-based Physics Electronic Student Worksheet (E-LKPD) and examine its feasibility and effectiveness in improving students' critical thinking skills. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the Four-D (4-D) development model. The effectiveness of the developed E-LKPD was evaluated using a pretest–posttest control group design. Data were collected through interviews, observations, questionnaires, tests, and documentation. The results showed that the developed E-LKPD was highly feasible based on expert validation, practical based on students' responses, and effective in improving students' critical thinking skills. The experimental class achieved a higher N-Gain score (0.364, medium category) than the control class (0.265, low category). These findings indicate that integrating PBL into interactive digital worksheets supports student-centered learning and promotes students' critical thinking skills. Therefore, the developed PBL-based Physics E-LKPD can be used as an effective digital teaching material for improving students' critical thinking skills.
