Abstract

Abstract:This study aims to deconstruct Cartesian dualism, which has dominated Western epistemology, particularly in understanding the relationship between the mind, body, and sensory perception, leading to a passive and mechanical view of perception. The research offers a solution from the perspective of holistic Islamic epistemology, grounded in the concept of tawhid (oneness). The main objectives are: (1) to critically analyze the tension between Cartesian dualism and Islamic epistemology using maq??id? exegesis of Qur'anic verses, (2) to formulate an alternative framework based on Islamic tur?th, known as "Enactive Tawhidic Perception," positioning the senses as active agents in constructing reality, and (3) to explore the neuroscientific implications of this model. The qualitative library research method focuses on primary texts such as I?y?’ ‘Ul?m al-D?n by Al-Ghazali, Al-Asf?r al-Arba’ah by Mulla Sadra, and maq??id? exegesis to understand the Qur'anic perspective on perception. The study shows that Islamic epistemology views perception as an integrated activity involving the senses, intellect, and heart as a unified epistemic system, where the senses are not passive but active agents in understanding reality. This research introduces a new paradigm for the neuroscience of spirituality, suggesting that perception can be a means to draw closer to God. In conclusion, this study presents the "Enactive Tawhidic Perception" model, bridging science and spirituality, and enriching contemporary Islamic cognitive philosophy by offering solutions to the fragmentation in understanding sensory perception. Abstract

This study examines the theological problem of religious pluralism from the perspective of the Qur'an through a comparative (muqaranah) analysis of three key verses: Q.S. al-Baqarah (2): 62, Q.S. al-Maidah (5): 69, and Q.S. al-Haj (22): 17. The academic issue arises from the tension between inclusive messages that acknowledge the potential salvation for non-Muslims based on universal faith and righteous deeds, and exclusive verses that emphasize Islamic finality and divine authority. Using a qualitative library research method with a comparative interpretive approach, this study analyzes classical and contemporary commentaries to explore hermeneutical nuances, historical contexts, and possible relational interpretations (nasikh-mansukh or specificity-generality). The findings reveal that the Qur'an constructs a multi-layered theological paradigm: it recognizes transcendent criteria for salvation (faith and good deeds), affirms Islam's truth claim, and simultaneously asserts Allah's absolute authority as the final judge. This dialectic avoids both religious relativism and exclusivist dogmatism, offering a balanced framework for interfaith coexistence. The novelty lies in the systematic comparison of these verses, highlighting the Qur'an's internal dynamics and proposing a "Theology of Testimony and Trust" (Teologi Kesaksian dan Tawakkal) as an ethical-theological model for engaging with religious diversity.

Abstract

Religious pluralism is a complex issue in modern society that acknowledges religious diversity and the view that each religion has its own truth. Among Muslims, understanding pluralism without compromising faith principles poses a significant challenge. The concept of Kalimat Sawa’ (Common Word) from Surah Ali Imran: 64, proposed by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to the People of the Book, is relevant in this context. Kalimat Sawa’ calls for the oneness of Allah and avoidance of associating partners with Him, providing a basis for fair interfaith dialogue. This study employs a quantitative approach with a comparative analysis of Tafsir Mafatih al-Ghaib by Fakhruddin al-Razi and other commentaries, and utilizes digital sources to expand the scope of data. The findings indicate that Kalimat Sawa’ emphasizes justice and equality in interfaith dialogue and the importance of returning to the principle of monotheism. Although deeply rooted in the socio-historical context of al-Razi, this concept must be adapted to digital dynamics and contemporary pluralism to remain relevant. In conclusion, Kalimat Sawa’ offers a framework for fostering harmonious relationships amid religious diversity by emphasizing dialogue based on justice. However, its application needs to be adjusted to contemporary contexts to address the increasingly complex challenges of religious pluralism and contribute to interfaith harmony.
