Abstract

Social interactions play an important role in influencing individuals' purchasing decisions in the context of modern society. This study examines how the social environment, consisting of family, friends and reference groups, significantly shapes consumer preferences and behaviour. Through a sociological approach, this study explores theories of social interaction and its influence on purchasing decisions, including mechanisms of conformity, social group influence and normative pressure. By analysing consumer behaviour within their social networks, this research highlights how social norms, group status, and cultural and environmental expectations can influence product and brand choices. The results show that the social environment not only influences purchasing decisions directly through daily interactions, but also through the construction of individual social identities. Consumers often seek social validation through the products they buy, hoping to gain recognition or status within their social group. In addition, phenomena such as shifts in consumption behaviour due to the influence of social media and opinion leaders also strengthen the impact of the social environment on purchasing decisions. This research confirms the importance of considering aspects of social interaction in marketing strategies, especially in understanding consumer motivation from a sociological perspective. The findings provide practical implications for marketers in designing campaigns that can leverage social dynamics to influence consumer preferences and drive more effective purchase behaviour.

Abstract

Purpose – This article explores and analyzes the impact of product quality influenced by sustainability and brand understanding on consumer purchasing decisions. Methodology/approach–The research methodology involved designing and testing a questionnaire measuring three main variables: sustainability-influenced product quality, brand understanding, and purchase decision. Data was collected through an online survey processed using descriptive analysis, correlation coefficient, F-test, and t-test hypothesis testing. The population in this study is the population of Bandung City in 2023 as many as 2,506,600 (BPS Bandung City 2024 data), using the Slovin formula sampling technique, a margin of error of 10% was obtained from a sample of 97 respondentsFindings – The results showed that sustainability-driven product quality had a strong relationship with consumer purchasing decisions, while brand understanding had a stronger relationship. Simultaneous analysis indicated that both variables significantly influenced purchase decisions, with brand understanding having a greater impact than product quality Novelty/value – Previous research has extensively explored the individual impacts of product quality and brand awareness on consumer behavior, yet the combined effect of these factors within the context of sustainability remains underexamined.

Abstract

Employee retention is a hospital management concern associated with employees' work experiences and relationships with their organizations. This study examines transformational leadership, job satisfaction, and employee retention in three Type C private hospitals in Bali. A quantitative cross-sectional design involved 100 employees purposively selected from a population of 465. The questionnaire comprised 39 items rated on a five-point Likert scale. The analysis covered descriptive statistics, internal consistency, and an examination of reported relationships between the variables. Mean scores for transformational leadership, job satisfaction, and retention were 3.79, 3.86, and 3.69, respectively. Individualized consideration, incentive fairness, and development opportunities warrant managerial attention. Job satisfaction was positively associated with retention in both the path model and regression outputs, with coefficients of 0.773 and 0.865, respectively, and p < 0.001. However, the direct leadership–retention relationship differed between outputs, preventing a consistent conclusion about the direct effect and mediation. The findings highlight the relevance of job satisfaction to employees' attitudes toward remaining with their organizations. Leadership development should be accompanied by concrete improvements in employees' work experiences. Interpretation is limited by the cross-sectional design, nonprobability sampling, and inconsistencies in the inferential outputs. The retention measure captures employee attitudes and intentions rather than longitudinally observed employment continuity.
