Abstract

Road maintenance is a critical activity conducted periodically, routinely, or upon the occurrence of damage to ensure road conditions remain steady, safe for use, and functional throughout their service life. The National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN) of North Maluku faces significant challenges in selecting alternative road maintenance equipment that satisfies not only technical criteria but also economic efficiency throughout its life cycle. This study utilizes the Life Cycle Cost (LCC) analysis method to evaluate equipment alternatives by identifying all costs incurred over a 10-year period, ranging from initial procurement to disposal. Data collection was conducted through structured interviews and field observations at BPJN North Maluku. The study compares two equipment group scenarios for pothole patching works. Alternative 1 prioritizes the use of a 2-Ton Vibro Roller as the primary compaction tool. In Alternative 2, the equipment group is structured based on the minimum equipment standards according to routine road maintenance guidelines, utilizing a Baby Roller (0.8-Ton capacity) as the primary compactor. The selection of these tools was based on field efficiency considerations. The calculation and analysis results show that Alternative 1 generates an LCC value of Rp 28,053,521,418.34, while Alternative 2 amounts to Rp 28,481,522,517.30. Although Alternative 2 offers a lower initial purchase price, Alternative 1 was selected as the optimal solution because it yields the lowest total LCC, demonstrating superior long-term economic value.
