Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in enhancing critical thinking skills among 6th grade students in mathematics at SD Inpres Minasa Upa 1, Makassar City. Conventional mathematics teaching, which focuses on teaching formulas and procedures, hampers the development of students' critical thinking skills. The PBL model was applied in two cycles of Classroom Action Research (CAR), with steps including planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The results show a significant improvement in students' critical thinking skills, with the learning mastery increasing from 25% in the pre-cycle, to 45% in Cycle I, and 85% in Cycle II. The application of the PBL model successfully activated student participation, improved problem-solving and analytical skills, and deepened their understanding of mathematical concepts. These results demonstrate that the PBL model is effective in enhancing students' critical thinking skills and is recommended for continuous implementation in elementary school mathematics instruction.
