Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ mathematical communication skills through the implementation of the Brain Based Learning (BBL) model in IX-4 of SMPS Katolik Budi Murni 1 Medan. This research is a classroom action research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through mathematical communication ability tests, observations, and documentation. The results showed that the systematic and structured application of the Brain Based Learning (BBL) model was able to enhance students' mathematical communication skills. In the first cycle, the average percentage of students’ learning mastery was 6.25%, which increased to 93.75% in the second cycle. This improvement reflects the effectiveness of the BBL model in helping students understand and communicate mathematical ideas both orally and in writing. Therefore, the Brain Based Learning (BBL) model can be considered an effective alternative teaching strategy to improve the quality of mathematics learning, especially in the aspect of communication.
