Abstract

The failure of a child to gain admission to their dream university often leads to significant psychological impacts, such as a decline in motivation, self-confidence, and enthusiasm for learning. In such situations, the role of parents becomes crucial in providing appropriate emotional support. One approach that can be utilized is reframing, a technique in communication and psychology aimed at shifting an individual’s perspective on an event to a more constructive and positive one. This study aims to describe how the application of reframing techniques by parents can enhance a child’s motivation after failing to enter their desired university. The research employs a qualitative approach using case studies of several families whose children did not gain admission to their target universities. The findings indicate that parental reframing—such as transforming the narrative of failure into an opportunity for growth, offering alternative and realistic perspectives, and emphasizing effort over outcomes—can help children overcome disappointment and regain motivation to pursue other academic goals. Therefore, reframing techniques have proven to be effective as a communication strategy that supports children’s mental resilience in facing failure.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the learning and socialization of autistic students at the Widya Wicara Serang Special Needs Tutoring Center for Children with Special Needs. The study used a descriptive qualitative method, using interviews and observations with teachers and autistic students. The results showed that autistic students experience difficulties in verbal and nonverbal communication, social interaction, attention span, and repetitive behaviors, which impact the learning process. Teachers implemented various approaches, such as the use of visual aids, concrete media, individual approaches, and consistent reinforcement strategies. Observations showed positive developments, including reduced tantrums, improved ability to follow simple instructions, and increased responsiveness to environmental stimuli. Interviews with teachers revealed that collaboration between teachers and parents plays a crucial role in supporting the effectiveness of interventions, particularly regarding the daily routines and eating patterns of autistic children. The greatest challenge in learning is limited communication and social interaction, requiring teachers to provide repeated sensory stimulation and easy-to-understand, step-by-step communication. This study emphasizes the importance of using structured methods, visual media, and intensive collaboration between teachers and parents to support the academic, behavioral, and social development of autistic students.
