Abstract

The Poor Students Assistance Program (BSM) is one of the government policies aimed at reducing the financial burden on underprivileged families while simultaneously improving access to education and academic performance of students. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the BSM program in improving the academic performance of elementary school students. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a case study at one elementary school that received the BSM program. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with teachers, 222parents, and stuXdents, as well as an analysis of academic scores before and after receiving assistance. The results of the study indicate that the BSM program has a positive impact on students' learning motivation and reduces dropout rates. However, the improvement in academic performance is not significant as it is influenced by other factors such as the quality of learning, family support, and the school environment. The implication of this research is the need for mentoring and assistance more intensive so that the assistance provided can be more effective in improving students' achievements.
